Overview

The Biglia B1250YS is the largest and most complete machine in Biglia's universal range. It has the long bed with 1,310 mm (51.6 in) of Z travel, 140 mm of Y travel, a sub-spindle, driven tools and a C-axis on both spindles, and at 8,400 kg (18,519 lb) with swarf conveyor it is also the heaviest.

Its sub-spindle positions over 1,130 mm on the B-axis at 24 m/min. That long stroke, together with the Y-axis, is what separates it from the B750YS, whose second spindle positions over 895 mm on a bed with 860 mm of Z travel. The extra length is useful in two ways. Long parts fit between the spindles, and short parts leave generous clearance for tools reaching in from the turret.

Power is split unevenly between the two ends. The main spindle is one of two ASA 8" units, the larger rated 30-38 kW and 800-1,014 Nm at 3,000 rpm with a 400 mm chuck. The sub-spindle is an ASA 6" unit with 30 - 40 kW, 286 Nm and 4,500 rpm. A sensible process puts the heavy stock removal on the main side and the lighter, faster cuts on the second.

No tailstock is listed for this version, and the quill and B-axis tailstock rows are blank in its column. The turret holds 16 or 12 tools on 25x25 mm shanks, any of them live at 12/15 kW. The machine is 562 cm long, 219 cm deep and 249 cm high.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • Y-axis, sub-spindle and live tooling on a bed with 1,310 mm of Z travel
  • Sub-spindle positioning of 1,130 mm, against 895 mm on the B750YS
  • Main spindle torque of 800-1,014 Nm with a 4,500 rpm sub-spindle for the second side
  • C-axis with a 0.001° minimum programmable value on each spindle
  • Automatic part transfer between the spindles for complete machining on both sides

Limitations

  • No tailstock rows for this version, so unsupported shaft length is limited by the part's stiffness
  • Heaviest machine of the series at 8,400 kg and 562 cm long
  • One turret with 16 or 12 stations for all operations on both spindles
  • Y rapid of 7.5 m/min and main spindle speeds of 3,000 or 3,200 rpm
06

Best For

Large, complex parts finished on both ends in one cycle Long workpieces transferred between two chucks Heavy first-operation turning followed by milled second-side features Replacing several machines on low-volume, high-content parts

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What makes the B1250YS different from the B1250SM?

The Y-axis. The B1250YS has a 140 mm Y-axis stroke with a 7.5 m/min rapid; the B1250SM has none. Both carry the same sub-spindle with 1,130 mm of B-axis positioning. Biglia lists the B1250YS at 8,400 kg and the B1250SM at 8,250 kg.

02 Can the B1250YS be fitted with a tailstock?

Biglia's table leaves both tailstock sections blank for the B1250YS. The versions listed with a tailstock are the B1250, B1250M and B1250Y, which have the hydraulic-quill type with a 115 mm quill and 150 mm of stroke. Ask Biglia about steady-rest support if long shafts are planned on this version.

03 What are the main spindle options on the B1250YS?

Two ASA 8" spindles. One is for 93/100 mm bar with a 106/111 mm bore, a 400 mm chuck, 3,000 rpm, 30-38 kW and 800-1,014 Nm. The other, marked as a spindle option, is for 80 mm bar with a 91 mm bore, a 315 mm chuck, 3,200 rpm, 15-22 kW and 398-700 Nm.

04 How quickly does the turret index?

Turret indexing is listed at 0.3 sec for one position. The turret has 16/12 stations for tools with 25x25 mm shanks and 32-40 / 40-50 mm boring bars, and the same number of live positions. Rapids are 18 m/min on X and 24 m/min on Z.
