Overview

Steel housings, gearbox cases and welded parts that need five sides machined with large tools are the work the AXA VPC 50 U is specified for. It is the compact VPC U gantry, with tilting B-axis head and NC rotary table, in its SK 50 form. The standard drive no. 131 produces 286 Nm and 45 kW at 40% DC, and drive no. 133 lifts that to 355 Nm and 56 kW.

The head tilts through 90° around the Y-axis. Standard indexing is 2.5°, which covers the vertical and horizontal positions and coarse angles between them; 0.001 positioning is an optional feature. AXA's page describes the tilting spindle as positioning steplessly or interpolating, so check which version a quotation contains.

An SK 50 head is longer than the SK 40 one, and the clearances show it. With the spindle vertical the nose stops 210 mm above the fixed tables (60 mm optionally) and 60 mm above the rotary table. Horizontally the minimum is 310 mm over the fixed tables and 160 mm over the rotary table. Z travel is 600 mm, or 700 mm as an option, so part height on the rotary table is limited.

The rotary table itself matches the VPC 40 U: 1,100 x 1,100 mm, 1,500 kg or optionally 2,000 kg, hydraulically clamped and integrated in the bed. X is 2,300 mm with the spindle vertical and 2,000 mm horizontal. The magazine carries 20 tools, 90 at most, with a tool change of approx. 7 s.
