Overview

The Y in AWEA HVM-6033Y stands for the axis that sets this machine apart. Y travel is 4,500 mm (177.2 in), the longest cross stroke in the HVM five-face bridge type machining center series, over a table that is only 2,400 mm (94.5 in) wide and columns 3,300 mm (129.9 in) apart. X is 6,000 mm (236.2 in) and Z is 1,000 mm (39.3 in).

So where does the extra stroke go? Not into a bigger table: the 6,020 x 2,400 mm (237.0 x 94.5 in) surface and its 20,000 kg (44,000 lb) rating are carried over from the HVM-6032. Nor does much of it go into the column opening, which the HVM-6032 lists at 3,200 mm (126.0 in). It goes to the sides. With the head able to travel well beyond the part on either flank, a side-facing spindle with a long tool still has room to approach and retract when the workpiece fills the opening.

A wider bridge moves more slowly. Y and Z rapids are 10,000 / 10,000 mm/min (393.7 / 393.7 IPM), and X is 10,000 mm/min (394 ipm) as well, so all three axes traverse at one rate. Cutting feed is 1 ~ 5,000 mm/min (0.04 ~ 196.9 IPM).

The building has to be wider too. AWEA lists 8,150 mm (321 in) of width, 14,875 mm (585 in) of length and a weight of 59,000 kg (129,800 lb). If the parts are longer still, the HVM-7033Y takes X to 7,000 mm (275.6 in) on this bridge.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • 4,500 mm (177.2 in) of Y travel, against 3,900 mm (153.5 in) on the HVM-6032
  • 3,300 mm (129.9 in) between the columns, the widest opening in the HVM series
  • 20,000 kg (44,000 lb) table load on a 6,020 x 2,400 mm (237.0 x 94.5 in) table
  • X rapid of 10,000 mm/min (394 ipm), faster than the 7,500 mm/min (295.2 IPM) of the HVM-7033Y
  • Optional 400 ~ 1,400 mm (15.7 ~ 55.1 in) spindle nose to table distance for tall setups

Limitations

  • Y rapid is 10,000 mm/min (393.7 IPM); the HVM-6032 lists 12,000 mm/min for Y
  • Table is no larger than on the HVM-6032 despite the longer Y stroke
  • 8,150 mm (321 in) wide and 59,000 kg (129,800 lb)
  • Cutting feed limited to 5,000 mm/min (196.9 IPM)

Best For

Side-face machining of parts that fill the 3,300 mm (129.9 in) column opening Wide housings and frames needing long horizontal tools on both flanks Workpieces up to 20,000 kg (44,000 lb) and about 6,000 mm (236.2 in) long Jobs where approach room beside the part matters more than traverse speed

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What does the Y suffix on the HVM-6033Y mean in the figures?

The two Y-suffix models have 4,500 mm (177.2 in) of Y travel and 3,300 mm (129.9 in) between the columns. The HVM-6032, which has an identical table, has 3,900 mm (153.5 in) of Y and 3,200 mm (126.0 in) between the columns. AWEA's specification page does not explain the suffix in words; the figures show a longer cross stroke on a slightly wider bridge.

02 Is the HVM-6033Y table bigger than the HVM-6032 table?

No. Both tables are 6,020 x 2,400 mm (237.0 x 94.5 in) and both are rated at 20,000 kg (44,000 lb). The difference is in the travel around the table, not in the table.

03 How fast are the axes on the HVM-6033Y?

X rapid is 10,000 mm/min (394 ipm). Y and Z rapids are 10,000 / 10,000 mm/min (393.7 / 393.7 IPM). Cutting feed runs from 1 to 5,000 mm/min (0.04 ~ 196.9 IPM).

04 How much room does the HVM-6033Y take?

8,150 mm (321 in) wide, 14,875 mm (585 in) long and 5,600 mm (220 in) high, at 59,000 kg (129,800 lb). The HVM-6032 is listed at the same length and height and at 57,000 kg (125,400 lb).

05 Which tools fit the HVM-6033Y spindle and magazine?

BT 50 (7 / 24) tooling. The magazine has 60 positions, or 90 or 120 as options, and accepts tools up to 400 mm (15.7 in) long and 25 kg (55 lb). Changing a tool takes 80 sec.
