Overview
The AXA VPC 55 U is the top model of the compact VPC U line and the only one that can be ordered with spindle drive no. 173: 445 Nm and 70 kW at 40% DC. AXA's data sheet restricts that drive to the VPC 55 U with interpolating tilting head. The standard spindle is the SK 50 drive no. 131 with 286 Nm and 45 kW, and no. 133 with 355 Nm sits between the two.
Mechanically this is the large VPC U build. Y travel is 1,400 mm (55.1 in), with 1,600 mm, 1,800 mm and 2,200 mm as options. Z is 900 mm (35.4 in) or 1,100 mm. X is 2,300 mm with the spindle vertical and 2,000 mm with it horizontal, and both can be lengthened in two steps.
The NC rotary table is integrated in the bed and clamps hydraulically. As standard it takes 2,000 kg with a 10,000 Nm tangential and 26,000 Nm tilting moment. The heavy option raises those figures to 3,500 kg, 18,000 Nm and 60,000 Nm, and table sizes go up to ø 2,300 mm. With drive no. 173 and the heavy table, the VPC 55 U approaches the work of a much larger gantry while keeping, in AXA's words, a transport in one single piece.
Head indexing is 2.5° as standard. The 0.001° fully interpolating B-axis is an optional feature, and the swivel range is given as 90° with 100° in brackets. Tool capacity is 20, expandable to 90, and tool change takes approx. 7 s.
