Overview

The AXA DBZ is a double place machining centre: one travelling column and one spindle serving two separate work areas, each with 750 mm (29.5 in) of X travel. AXA's data sheet writes the X axis as 2 x 750 mm and the clamping surface as 2 x (1,000 x 500 mm). While the spindle cuts on one side, the operator unloads and reloads the other. AXA calls this pendulum operation and aims the machine at high quantities with short set-up times.

Each station matches the small VCC in size. Y travel is 550 mm, Z is 600 mm and the spindle nose can be set between 180 mm and 780 mm above the table. Each table has three T-slots and is rated at 800 kg/m².

Only one spindle is fitted, so its duty is continuous even when a station is being loaded. The standard drive no. 110 is an SK 40 spindle with 6,000 rpm, 143 Nm and 30 kW at 40% DC, and it can be ordered with up to 12,000 rpm. Drive no. 100 (up to 15,000 rpm, 95 Nm) and drive no. 111 (191 Nm, 40 kW) are the alternatives. BT 40 and HSK A63 tool holders are optional.

AXA places the tool changer behind the control panel, between the two stations, with a 22-pocket magazine that can be expanded to 30. Positioning accuracy is ± 0.015 mm per 1,000 mm, a tighter standard value than the ± 0.02 mm of the single-station VCC.
