Overview

The AWEA HVM-4032 is a five-face bridge type machining center whose table is more than half as wide as it is long: 4,020 x 2,400 mm (158.3 x 94.5 in), under a bridge with 3,200 mm (126.0 in) between the columns. Travels are 4,000 mm (157.5 in) in X, 3,900 mm (153.5 in) in Y and 1,000 mm (39.3 in) in Z. Among the HVM sizes this is the one for squarish work such as large plates, ring-shaped weldments and housings.

X and Y strokes are nearly equal, which is unusual in a bridge mill. A round or square part set in the middle of the table can be reached all the way around, on top and on each side face, without turning it.

Some things stay small while the envelope grows. Table load is 12,000 kg (26,400 lb), no higher than on the narrow HVM-4018. Y rapid is 12,000 mm/min (472 ipm), where the HVM-4018 lists 15,000 mm/min (590.6 IPM); Z rapid is 10,000 mm/min (394 ipm) and X rapid holds at 15,000 mm/min (590.6 IPM). The heavier cross-travel assembly that spans a 3,200 mm opening is the likely reason Y gives up speed.

Bay width is the planning issue. AWEA lists the machine at 7,475 mm (294 in) wide, 10,480 mm (413 in) long and 5,600 mm (220 in) high, at 54,000 kg (118,800 lb). For heavier parts on this bridge, the HVM-5032 is rated at 18,000 kg (39,600 lb) and the HVM-6032 at 20,000 kg (44,000 lb).

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • 3,200 mm (126.0 in) between the columns with a 2,400 mm (94.5 in) wide table
  • 3,900 mm (153.5 in) of Y travel against 4,000 mm (157.5 in) of X, so square and round parts are covered evenly
  • X rapid of 15,000 mm/min (590.6 IPM), faster than the 10,000 mm/min (394 ipm) of the HVM-5032
  • Cutting feed range of 1 ~ 10,000 mm/min (0.04 ~ 393.7 IPM), the widest in the 3,200 mm column frame
  • Shortest machine on this bridge at 10,480 mm (413 in)

Limitations

  • 12,000 kg (26,400 lb) table load on the largest table of the three 4,000 mm models
  • Y rapid of 12,000 mm/min (472 ipm) is below the 15,000 mm/min (590.6 IPM) of the HVM-4018
  • Needs 7,475 mm (294 in) of bay width
  • Maximum tool length of 400 mm (15.7 in) limits how deep a side-facing tool can reach into a wide part
06

Best For

Square plates, rings and housings up to the 3,200 mm (126.0 in) column opening Large fabrications that are light for their size, within 12,000 kg (26,400 lb) Parts that need machining all the way around without being turned Wide mould and die bases on BT 50 tooling

Frequently Asked Questions

01 How wide a part can pass through the HVM-4032?

The distance between the columns is 3,200 mm (126.0 in), and the table is 2,400 mm (94.5 in) wide. A part may overhang the table, but it has to clear the columns as the table travels in X. Y travel of 3,900 mm (153.5 in) is larger than the opening, which leaves stroke for the head to work beside the part.

02 Does the wider HVM-4032 carry more weight than the HVM-4025?

No. Both are rated at 12,000 kg (26,400 lb). The HVM-4032 table is 4,020 x 2,400 mm (158.3 x 94.5 in) and the HVM-4025 table is 4,020 x 2,010 mm (158.3 x 79.1 in). The first model on the wide bridge with a higher rating is the HVM-5032 at 18,000 kg (39,600 lb).

03 What are the rapid traverse rates of the HVM-4032?

15,000 mm/min (590.6 IPM) in X, and 12,000 / 10,000 mm/min (472 / 394 ipm) in Y and Z. Cutting feed is 1 ~ 10,000 mm/min (0.04 ~ 393.7 IPM).

04 How many tools does the HVM-4032 carry, and how quickly does it change them?

The magazine holds 60 tools as standard; 90 and 120 are options. A tool-to-tool change takes 80 sec. On large five-sided parts with long cuts that is usually a small share of the cycle, but it is worth grouping operations by tool.

05 How big and heavy is the HVM-4032?

It is listed at 10,480 mm (413 in) long, 7,475 mm (294 in) wide and 5,600 mm (220 in) high, with a weight of 54,000 kg (118,800 lb). The HVM-4025, built on the narrower bridge, is 6,775 mm (267 in) wide and weighs 53,000 kg (116,600 lb).
