Overview

The AWEA FCV-620 is a moving-column 5-axis machining center with a B / C rotary table of Ø650 mm (Ø25.6 in). The column carries X, Y and Z, with travels of 635 mm (25.0 in), 535 mm (21.1 in) and 460 mm (18.1 in), while the workpiece only tilts and rotates. Because the table never translates, its load does not affect the linear axes.

That table is supported on both sides and driven from one. It carries 300 kg (661 lb) between 0° and 45° of tilt and 200 kg (441 lb) at steeper angles. The B-axis range is -50˚ ~ +110˚, the C-axis 360˚, and both turn at 25 rpm. AWEA casts the table in spheroidal graphite iron for damping.

Spindle choice is wider than on any other AWEA machine of this size. The table lists direct drive spindles at 12,000 (15,000) rpm and built-in spindles at 16,000 (20,000) rpm, in BBT40 or HSK-A63. The motor row reads 11 / 15 (FANUC 12,000 rpm) kW. A built-in spindle at the higher speeds points this machine at mold finishing and aluminium structural parts; the direct drive version covers general 5-axis work.

All linear axes rapid at 36 m/min (1,417 ipm) on roller type linear guide ways. A 32-tool arm type magazine is standard, with 40 and 60 tools optional. Controls are the HEIDENHAIN iTNC 640 or, for 4+1 axes, the FANUC Oi -MF. The machine weighs 8,500 kg (18,739 lb) and needs 50 kVA. Coolant through the spindle at 20 bar and linear scales are options.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • Ø650 mm (Ø25.6 in) B / C table supported on both sides, 300 kg (661 lb) up to 45° of tilt
  • Spindle options from direct drive 12,000 rpm to built-in 20,000 rpm, BBT40 or HSK-A63
  • Moving column design keeps the workpiece mass off the linear axes
  • 32 tools standard, 40 or 60 optional
  • 36 m/min (1,417 ipm) rapids on X, Y and Z

Limitations

  • Table load drops to 200 kg (441 lb) once the table tilts past 45°
  • The FANUC Oi -MF control is listed for 4+1 axes only
  • Maximum tool weight is 6 kg (13 lb)
  • Needs 50 kVA, and linear scales and through-spindle coolant are extra
06

Best For

5-axis simultaneous machining of parts up to 300 kg (661 lb) Mold and die finishing with the built-in high speed spindle Aerospace and medical parts completed in a single setup 4+1 production work on a FANUC control

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What are the rotary axis specifications of the AWEA FCV-620?

The B-axis rotary range is -50˚ ~ +110˚ and the C-axis range is 360˚, with a B / C swiveling speed of 25 rpm. The rotary table is Ø650 mm (Ø25.6 in) in diameter, driven on one side and supported on both.

02 How much weight can the FCV-620 table carry?

300 kg (661 lb) with the table tilted between 0° and 45°, and 200 kg (441 lb) when it is tilted further than 45°. The table has 18 mm T-slots, five of them, at 100 mm spacing.

03 Which spindles are available on the FCV-620?

AWEA lists direct drive spindles at 12,000 rpm or 15,000 rpm and built-in spindles at 16,000 rpm or 20,000 rpm. The taper is BBT40, with HSK-A63 as an option. Coolant through the spindle at 20 bar is optional.

04 Can the FCV-620 do full 5-axis simultaneous machining with a FANUC control?

According to the footnote in AWEA's table, the FANUC Oi -MF is for 4+1 axes. The HEIDENHAIN iTNC 640 is the control listed without that restriction, so it is the one to specify for simultaneous 5-axis contouring.

05 What are the linear travels and feed rates of the FCV-620?

Travels are 635 mm (25.0 in) in X, 535 mm (21.1 in) in Y and 460 mm (18.1 in) in Z. The X, Y and Z rapid feed rate is 36 m/min (1,417 ipm). Spindle nose to table center distance is 150 ~ 610 mm (5.9 ~ 24.0 in).
