Overview
The Brother Speedio R450Xd1 is a compact VMC with an integrated rotary table (A-axis) for multi-face machining without re-fixturing. The built-in 4th axis allows access to multiple sides of a workpiece in a single setup.
X/Y/Z travels are 450 x 300 x 305 mm with A-axis providing +/- 120 degrees of tilt. Spindle runs at 16,000 rpm with 7.5 kW on BT30 taper. The 21-tool turret delivers 0.9-second chip-to-chip changes.
Rapids are 50 m/min on X/Y, 56 m/min on Z. The integrated rotary eliminates the need for a separate 4th-axis unit. CNC-C00 handles 4-axis interpolation natively.
Positioning accuracy +/- 0.004 mm, repeatability +/- 0.002 mm. Weight is 3,400 kg with a 1,650 x 2,340 mm footprint.
Competes with Robodrill models fitted with aftermarket 4th-axis units but offers a cleaner, more rigid integrated design.
New machines price $120,000-$160,000. Used trade $55,000-$95,000.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- Integrated rotary table eliminates separate 4th-axis units
- Multi-face machining in single setup reduces cycle time dramatically
- Same 0.9s turret tool change as other Speedios
- Native 4-axis interpolation in CNC-C00
- More rigid than bolt-on 4th-axis solutions
- Compact footprint matches S500Xd2
Limitations
- A-axis limited to +/- 120 degrees, not full 360
- BT30 limits heavy cutting even with multi-face access
- Y-axis 300 mm more restricted than S-series
- Integrated rotary cannot be removed for flat table work
- Higher price premium over standard Speedios

Frequently Asked Questions
01
Brother sells the SPEEDIO range through regional distributors and does not publish list pricing, so the R450Xd1 is quoted per configuration. On a BT30 machine with an integrated A-axis the price is driven by what makes it run unattended, meaning through-spindle coolant, probing, chip and coolant management, and pallet or robot loading, rather than by large machine options, since the 21-tool turret and 16,000 RPM spindle are fixed. Budget separately for BT30 holders and fixturing for the rotary. Used SPEEDIO machines are widely traded, where spindle hours, rotary condition and control generation set the price.
02
+/- 120 degrees tilt, not full 360.
03
Integrated rotary table instead of flat. X slightly smaller (450 vs 500mm), Y reduced (300 vs 400mm).
04
Yes, CNC-C00 supports indexed and simultaneous 4-axis.
05
No, integrated into machine structure.
