Overview

The Anderson FUV-400 is the mid-size machine of the FUV 5-axis series and the first on the larger frame. Its trunnion carries a Ø400 mm (Ø15.7 in) rotary table rated for 200 kg (441 lb), and travels are 460 mm (18.1 in) in X, 500 mm (19.7 in) in Y and 500 mm (19.7 in) in Z.

Several things change at this size besides the table. The spindle motor steps up to 7.5/11 kW. The base spindle speed drops to 10,000 rpm, with 12,000 and 15,000 listed as alternatives. Linear rapids fall to 30/30/24 m/min, from the 36/36/36 m/min of the FUV-250. Machine weight rises to 6,600 kg (14,550 lb) and the coolant tank to 350 L. Read together, these rows describe a machine tuned more for general 5-sided machining of mid-size parts than for high-speed work on miniature ones.

Both rotary axes are listed at 25 rpm with direct drive and 0.001° resolution. The A axis tilts from +30° to -120°, and C rotates through a continuous 360°. That is a typical trunnion range, and Anderson quotes it together with the table diameter as the headline of this model.

A Ø400 mm table and 200 kg cover a wide band of job-shop work: pump housings, valve bodies, mould inserts, structural brackets. The distance from spindle nose to table is 15 ~ 515 mm (0.6 ~ 20.3 in), so tall fixtures remain possible. The tool magazine holds 24 tools as standard, with 30 and 36 listed, and tools may be 250 mm (9.8 in) long and 7 kg (15 lb). The control is FANUC 0i-MF.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • Ø400 mm (Ø15.7 in) rotary table rated for 200 kg (441 lb)
  • 7.5/11 kW spindle motor, up from 5.5/7.5 kW on the FUV-250
  • A axis range of +30° to -120° with continuous 360° C rotation
  • 500 mm (19.7 in) of travel in both Y and Z
  • 350 L coolant tank and 1.55 sec tool-to-tool change

Limitations

  • Base spindle speed is 10,000 rpm; 12,000 and 15,000 are listed as alternatives
  • Linear rapids of 30/30/24 m/min are lower than on the FUV-250
  • Rotary axes are listed at 25 rpm, a quarter of the FUV-170 A axis speed
  • Tool weight is limited to 7 kg (15 lb)

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What are the travels of the FUV-400?

460 mm (18.1 in) in X, 500 mm (19.7 in) in Y and 500 mm (19.7 in) in Z. The spindle nose to table distance is 15 ~ 515 mm (0.6 ~ 20.3 in). The rotary table is Ø400 mm (Ø15.7 in) and carries up to 200 kg (441 lb).

02 How does the FUV-400 differ from the FUV-500?

The FUV-500 is larger in every direction: a Ø500 mm table for 300 kg (661 lb), travels of 600 mm (23.6 in), 700 mm (27.6 in) and 520 mm (20.5 in), and a weight of 8,700 kg (19,180 lb). The FUV-500 rotary axes are slower, at 16 rpm and 11 rpm. The FUV-400 weighs 6,600 kg (14,550 lb) and lists 25 rpm on both axes.

03 What spindle is fitted to the FUV-400?

An ISO 40 direct-drive spindle. The speed row reads 10,000 rpm, with 12,000 and 15,000 rpm as the listed alternatives, and the motor is 7.5/11 kW. The table does not state torque, so ask for the torque curve of the speed version quoted.

04 How accurate is the FUV-400?

Anderson lists positioning accuracy of ±0.008 mm and repeatability of ±0.005 mm for the linear axes, and a rotary resolution of 0.001°. The table does not give a positioning accuracy for the rotary axes themselves.
