Anderson Mass 5 — price

Price estimate: uncertain

We have no price for the Anderson Mass 5 that we can cite and no estimate we can stand behind, so this page shows no number rather than a guess. A quote from Anderson or an authorised dealer is the reliable figure.

What moves the final price

  • Spindle, control and probing options
  • Tool changer capacity and tooling package
  • Automation — pallet changers, bar feeders, robot cells
  • Freight, rigging, installation and training
  • Region, dealer and time of year

Overview

The Anderson Mass 5 is a large open-gantry 5-axis machine for composites and aluminum. It is built to size: the table is listed at 3000 - 6000 mm (118 - 236 in) wide and 6000 - 16000 mm (236 - 630 in) long, with a Z stroke of 1000 - 3000 mm (39.3 - 118 in). The head tilts ± 100° in B and rotates ± 200° in C.

Those ranges mean there is no single Mass 5. A machine at the small end of the table has a third of the Z stroke of one at the large end, and the two will differ in weight, footprint and foundation. None of that is in Anderson's table, which gives no weight, floor area or rapid rate in a usable unit. Treat the page as a description of what can be ordered and get the figures for the quoted size in writing.

The table itself is open, flat steel with T slots, in 1 zone. That is a fixture table. Trim tools, moulds and holding frames bolt down to it, and a vacuum prep kit is an option for shops that hold parts by vacuum. X and Y are rack driven, which is what makes the long travels practical, and Z runs on a ball screw.

Spindle choices are 12 HP, 18 HP or 24 HP on HSK 63F at 22000 rpm, or a 25 HP Vector spindle on HSK 63E at 18000 rpm. The tool changer is listed as ATC : 10, 12, 16, 20 or Ranrob : 12, 16, 20, 32. Control is FANUC 31i or SIEMENS 840D. Barriers and a safety fence are optional, tool holders are included, and remote internet diagnostics are listed.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • Table from 3000 - 6000 mm (118 - 236 in) wide and 6000 - 16000 mm (236 - 630 in) long, built to the order
  • Z stroke of 1000 - 3000 mm (39.3 - 118 in) for deep moulds and tall trim fixtures
  • B axis of ± 100° and C axis of ± 200° on the head
  • Choice of FANUC 31i or SIEMENS 840D control
  • Spindles from 12 HP to 24 HP on HSK 63F, or a 25 HP Vector spindle on HSK 63E

Limitations

  • No weight, floor area or accuracy figures are published; they depend on the size ordered
  • The rapid rate rows carry a unit that cannot be read reliably, so travel speeds must come from the quotation
  • Barriers, the safety fence and the vacuum prep kit are optional
  • Top spindle speed is 22000 rpm, and the 25 HP Vector spindle is limited to 18000 rpm

Best For

Trimming and drilling large composite parts Aluminum and composite work on fixtures bolted to a T slot table Long parts up to the 16000 mm (630 in) table length Patterns and moulds that need up to 3000 mm (118 in) of Z

Frequently Asked Questions

01 How large can the Mass 5 be built?

Anderson lists the table width as 3000 - 6000 mm (118 - 236 in) and the length as 6000 - 16000 mm (236 - 630 in). The standard Z stroke is 1000 - 3000 mm (39.3 - 118 in). The page describes the design as modular and available in a range of formats and sizes.

02 What are the rotary axis ranges of the Mass 5?

The table lists B at ± 100° and C at ± 200°. With a tilting and rotating head over a fixed open table, the part stays still and the spindle moves around it, which suits large or heavy workpieces that cannot be tilted.

03 What spindle and tool changer options does the Mass 5 have?

The router spindle row lists 12 HP, 18 HP and 24 HP versions on HSK 63F at 22000 rpm, and a 25 HP Vector spindle on HSK 63E at 18000 rpm. The automatic tool changer is listed as ATC : 10, 12, 16, 20 and Ranrob : 12, 16, 20, 32. Tool holders are included.

04 Which controls are offered on the Mass 5?

FANUC 31i or SIEMENS 840D. Anderson also lists remote internet diagnostics and Ethernet options for remote technical support. The choice between the two controls usually follows what a shop's programmers and post-processors already support.
