Overview

The Anderson Axxiom 1616 IP PT is the twin-table version of the AXXIOM 5-axis machine. It has two tables, each 1600 mm (63”) by 1600 mm (63”), with 2 vacuum zones in total, and the tables can be locked together to make one surface 3100 mm long. X stroke is 3810 mm (150”), Y stroke 2200 mm (86”) and Z stroke 1000 mm (39.37”).

Twin tables on a 5-axis trimmer answer a specific problem. Trimming a formed part takes minutes, but loading it onto its fixture and getting the vacuum to seal can take as long. With two tables the operator loads one fixture while the head works on the other, so the spindle keeps cutting through the shift. When a part is too long for one table, the two are locked and the machine behaves like the single-table Axxiom 1631 IP.

That flexibility comes at the same listed weight as the long single-table model, 12,000 Kg (26,455 lbs.). The X stroke of 3810 mm (150”) is the longest in the series, since the bridge has to serve both table positions.

Spindle and motion figures match the other two models: 18 HP, 22,000 rpm, HSK-63, rapids of 60 m/min in X and Y and 20 m/min in Z, with an 85 m/min maximum. The tool changer row reads 8 / 10 / 12 / 16 and the control is FANUC 31i or FANUC 0i. Anderson's table does not list light barriers, fences or the rotary axis ranges for this model, and all three matter on a machine an operator stands beside while it runs. Automatic loading, an offload pusher/sweeper and CNC label placement are options.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • Twin tables of 1600 mm (63”) by 1600 mm (63”) for loading one while cutting on the other
  • Tables lock together to give 3100 mm for long parts
  • 3810 mm (150”) X stroke, the longest in the AXXIOM series
  • 2 vacuum zones, so each table holds its fixture independently
  • 1000 mm (39.37”) of Z stroke with an 18 HP, 22,000 rpm spindle

Limitations

  • Weighs 12,000 Kg (26,455 lbs.), against 8,600 Kg (18,960 lbs.) for the single-table Axxiom 1616 IP
  • Safety barriers for twin-table loading are not listed in Anderson's table
  • Rotary axis ranges and speeds are not published
  • Y stroke is 2200 mm (86”), the same as the base model

Best For

Production trimming where fixture loading takes as long as the cut Shops that run short parts most days and long parts sometimes Two different fixtures kept set up at once Formed plastics and composites up to 1000 mm (39.37”) tall

Frequently Asked Questions

01 How do the twin tables of the Axxiom 1616 IP PT work?

The table lists two tables of 1600 mm (63”) by 1600 mm (63”) each, and 3100 mm with the tables locked. Used separately, one table can be loaded while the other is machined. Locked, they form a single long table. There are 2 vacuum zones.

02 What are the strokes of the Axxiom 1616 IP PT?

3810 mm (150”) in X, 2200 mm (86”) in Y and 1000 mm (39.37”) in Z. The X stroke is longer than on the single-table models, which are listed at 2200 mm (86”), because the head has to cover both table positions.

03 Is the Axxiom 1616 IP PT faster than the single-table models?

The axis speeds are the same: 60 m/min rapids in X and Y, 20 m/min in Z and 85 m/min maximum rapid traverse. Any gain comes from loading during the cut, not from the motion figures. The spindle is the same 18 HP unit at up to 22,000 rpm.

04 Which control and options are listed for the Axxiom 1616 IP PT?

The control is FANUC 31i or FANUC 0i. Reverse air flow, a bar-code reader, an offload pusher/sweeper, automatic loading and CNC label placement are optional, and vacuum pumps of 10, 25 or 40 HP are listed. Ask Anderson what guarding is supplied for the twin-table layout.
