How much does the Akira Seiki SL30 cost?
Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Akira Seiki SL30 that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The SL30 is the mid-size workhorse of Akira Seiki's two-axis lathes: an 8" chuck as standard with a 10" option, a 400 mm (15.7 in) maximum cutting diameter and a 600 mm (23.6 in) cutting length. Swing over the bed is 600 mm (23.6 in).
Bar capacity is the first thing that sets it apart from the SL25. The draw tube bore is 65 mm (2.6 in), which covers most common bar stock for a machine of this class. The A2-6 spindle turns 4,500 rpm and delivers 24 HP (17.9 kW) and 305 Nm (225 lb-ft) at peak.
The machine is built on a longer, heavier bed, at 5,400 kg (11,905 lb). Z travel is 610 mm (24 in) and X travel 220 + 20 mm (8.6 + 0.8 in). A tailstock is part of the listed specification: 610 mm (24 in) of travel, a 100 mm (3.9 in) quill and an MT4 taper. For parts longer than that, the SL30L is the same lathe with 1,010 mm (39.8 in) of Z.
The 12-station turret indexes in 0.35 s and takes 25 mm (0.98 in) OD tools and 40 mm (1.57 in) boring bars. Rapid feed is 36 m/min (1,417 ipm). Dimensions are 2,930 x 1,745 mm (115.3 x 69 in) and the power requirement is 28 kVA. A chip drawer is standard, a conveyor optional.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- 65 mm (2.6 in) draw tube bore for bar work
- 305 Nm (225 lb-ft) of peak torque at up to 4,500 rpm
- Tailstock with MT4 quill listed as part of the machine
- 10" chuck available as an option
- 0.35 s turret index time on 12 stations
Limitations
- Cutting length of 600 mm (23.6 in); longer shafts need the SL30L
- 24 HP (17.9 kW) peak is no more than the smaller SL20 offers
- Chip conveyor is an option, not standard
- Coolant capacity could not be taken from the maker's page, where litres and gallons disagree
