Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Akira Seiki SL25MC that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The Akira Seiki SL25MC is the smallest lathe in the SL Mill-Turn group. Its application row reads X+Z+C: a two-axis turning center with a C axis on the spindle and driven tools in the turret, so cross holes, flats and keyways can be machined without a second setup.
The driven tools run to 5,000 rpm with 3.7 kW (5.5 HP) at the turret. That is the fastest power-tool speed among the X+Z+C models; the SL30MC and the larger machines are listed at 4,000 rpm. The turret is a 12-station unit with VDI30 tooling and ER25 collets for the live holders, and it indexes in 0.52 s.
Turning capacity is a 530 mm (20.9 in) swing, a maximum cutting diameter of 280 mm (11 in) and a cutting length of 380 mm (15 in). The spindle is the SL25 unit: A2-6 nose, 5,000 rpm, 17 HP (12.7 kW) and 202 Nm (149 lb-ft) at peak, with a 52 mm (2 in) draw tube bore. X travel is 195 + 5 mm (7.6 + 0.2 in) and Z travel 435 mm (17.1 in).
The tailstock is an option here, with 410 mm (16.1 in) of travel and a 100 mm (3.9 in) quill. The machine weighs 4,050 kg (8,929 lb), measures 2,450 x 1,500 mm (97 x 59 in) and needs 30 kVA. The chuck row on the maker's page carries a typing error and is not shown; the two-axis SL25 lists an 8" chuck.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- C axis and driven tools at 5,000 rpm with 3.7 kW (5.5 HP)
- 12-station VDI30 turret with a 0.52 s index
- 202 Nm (149 lb-ft) of peak spindle torque
- Compact at 2,450 x 1,500 mm (97 x 59 in) and 4,050 kg (8,929 lb)
Limitations
- No Y axis: milling is limited to X+Z+C
- Maximum cutting diameter of 280 mm (11 in), below the 350 mm (13.8 in) of the two-axis SL25
- The tailstock is optional on this model
- Needs 30 kVA, more than the 25 kVA of the SL25

Frequently Asked Questions
01
It marks the mill-turn version. The application row lists X+Z+C, and the turret has power tooling rated 3.7 kW (5.5 HP) at up to 5,000 rpm. There is no Y axis.
02
Maximum cutting diameter is 280 mm (11 in) and maximum cutting length 380 mm (15 in), with a 530 mm (20.9 in) swing over the bed. Z travel is 435 mm (17.1 in).
03
The table lists VDI30 under OD tool size and ER25 under boring bar shank, on a 12-station turret. Tool change time with a neighbouring tool is 0.52 s.
04
The SL30MC is the next size: a 65 mm (2.6 in) bore, 305 Nm (225 lb-ft) of peak torque, a 330 mm (13 in) cutting diameter and VDI40 tooling, with driven tools at 4,000 rpm.
