Akira Seiki SL20 — price

Price estimate: uncertain

We have no price for the Akira Seiki SL20 that we can cite and no estimate we can stand behind, so this page shows no number rather than a guess. A quote from Akira Seiki or an authorised dealer is the reliable figure.

What moves the final price

  • Spindle, control and probing options
  • Tool changer capacity and tooling package
  • Automation — pallet changers, bar feeders, robot cells
  • Freight, rigging, installation and training
  • Region, dealer and time of year

Overview

A 6" chuck, a tailstock and 350 mm (13.8 in) of Z travel define the Akira Seiki SL20, the small general-purpose lathe of the SL two-axis line. Maximum cutting diameter is 290 mm (11.4 in), maximum cutting length 330 mm (13 in), and the draw tube bore is 45 mm (1.8 in).

The spindle is quick and fairly strong for the size: 6,000 rpm, 24 HP (17.9 kW) and 137 Nm (101 lb-ft) at peak, on an A2-5 nose. Rapid feed is 36 m/min (1,417 ipm) in X and Z. The 10-station turret indexes in 0.5 s and takes 20 mm (0.79 in) OD tools and 25 mm (0.98 in) boring bars.

Unlike the SL15, this model lists a tailstock as part of the machine, with 210 mm (8.3 in) of travel, an 80 mm (3.1 in) quill stroke and an MT3 taper. That widens the work from chucked slugs and bar ends to shafts and pins that need a centre.

At 2,600 kg (5,732 lb) and 22 kVA, the SL20 is an easy machine to place. A chip drawer is standard and a conveyor is optional; the coolant tank holds 120 L (32 gal). The maker's dimension row for this model has metric and inch figures that disagree, so no footprint is shown here. Control is the AKIRA Mi:845 (Fanuc G code compatible).

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What size chuck does the SL20 have?

A 6" chuck, with a 45 mm (1.8 in) draw tube bore and an A2-5 spindle nose. Maximum cutting diameter is 290 mm (11.4 in) and swing over the bed 450 mm (17.7 in).

02 Does the SL20 have a tailstock?

Yes. The table lists a tailstock travel of 210 mm (8.3 in), a quill travel of 80 mm (3.1 in) and an MT3 quill taper, without marking them as options.

03 How does the SL20 compare with the SL25?

The SL25 is larger and slower-turning: an 8" chuck, a 52 mm (2 in) bore, 5,000 rpm and 202 Nm (149 lb-ft), with a 12-station turret. Its tailstock is listed as an option. The SL20 keeps 6,000 rpm and 24 HP (17.9 kW).

04 What power supply does the SL20 need?

The power requirement is 22 kVA. Machine weight is 2,600 kg (5,732 lb), and the coolant tank holds 120 L (32 gal) with a chip drawer as standard.
