Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Akira Seiki SL40L that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
With a maximum cutting length of 1,500 mm (59 in), the Akira Seiki SL40L is the longest lathe in the SL two-axis range. Z travel is 1,520 mm (58.9 in) and the tailstock travels 1,550 mm (61 in), on an MT5 quill with a 100 mm (3.9 in) stroke.
It is the long-bed form of the SL40 and keeps that machine's geared headstock: A2-11 nose, 2,500 rpm, 60 HP (44.7 kW) and 2,944 Nm (2,171 lb-ft) at peak. A 15" chuck is standard and an 18" chuck optional, over a 103 mm (4.1 in) draw tube bore. Maximum cutting diameter is 550 mm (21.7 in).
What does a metre and a half of turning length cover? Propeller and pump shafts, rolls, long hydraulic cylinders, oilfield tubulars within the bore size. On work like that the cut is long and continuous, so torque and bed mass matter more than indexing speed. The machine weighs 7,700 kg (16,976 lb) and measures 4,525 x 2,165 mm (178 x 85 in).
The 12-station turret takes 32 mm (1.26 in) OD tools and 50 mm (1.97 in) boring bars and indexes in 0.5 s. Rapid feed is 30 m/min (1,181 ipm) in X and 36 m/min (1,417 ipm) in Z. Power requirement is 35 kVA. A chip drawer is standard; given the chip volume, the optional conveyor is worth specifying.
