Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Akira Seiki SL30YMC that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The Akira Seiki SL30YMC is the Y-axis lathe of the SL family. Its Y axis travels ±100 mm (±3.9 in), which lets the driven tools cut off the spindle centreline: true flats, offset holes, pockets and keyways with parallel walls. The X+Z+C machines in the range cannot do that without interpolation tricks.
The turret has 12T on a BMT55 interface, and the milling tools run to 6,000 rpm with a 25 mm (1.0 in) milling tool diameter. That is the highest driven-tool speed on any Akira Seiki lathe.
Turning capacity depends on the chuck. With the standard 8" chuck the spindle runs to 4,500 rpm and the cutting length and Z travel are 583 mm; with the optional 10" chuck the speed is 4,200 rpm and the length 565 mm. Maximum cutting diameter is 400 mm (15.7 in), the standard cutting diameter 200 mm (7.9 in), and swing over the bed 700 mm (27.6 in). Bar capacity is 65 mm (2.6 in) on an A2-6 nose.
X travel is 240 + 20 mm (9.4 + 0.8 in). All three axes rapid at 36 m/min (1,417 ipm). The tailstock travels 550 mm (21.7 in) with a 100 mm (3.9 in) thimble stroke. The machine is 3,340 mm (131.5 in) long, 1,950 mm (76.8 in) deep and 2,500 mm (98.4 in) high, and weighs 6,400 kg (14,110 lb). The maker's table gives no spindle power, control or supply figures for this model.

Frequently Asked Questions
01
Off-centre milling and drilling. The Y axis travel is ±100 mm (±3.9 in), so driven tools can cut flats, pockets and holes away from the spindle centreline. Y rapid feed is 36 m/min (1,417 ipm).
02
Maximum cutting diameter is 400 mm (15.7 in) and standard cutting diameter 200 mm (7.9 in). Maximum cutting length is listed per chuck: 8" chuck (STD): 583 mm; 10" chuck (OPT): 565 mm.
03
The main spindle runs to 4,500 rpm with the standard 8" chuck and 4,200 rpm with the optional 10" chuck. Milling tools run to 6,000 rpm. The spindle nose is A2-6.
04
The SL30MC is an X+Z+C machine with a VDI40 turret and driven tools at 4,000 rpm. The SL30YMC adds the Y axis, uses a BMT55 turret and has the faster milling tools.
