Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Akira Seiki SL40MC that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
Akira Seiki's SL40MC is a geared-head mill-turn lathe. The headstock is that of the SL40: A2-11 nose, 2,500 rpm, 60 HP (44.7 kW) peak and 2,944 Nm (2,171 lb-ft) of peak torque through a gear box, with a 103 mm (4.1 in) draw tube bore and a 15" chuck (18" optional). To that the MC version adds a C axis and a driven-tool turret.
The turret is a different design from the smaller MC models. It is listed as BMT65, a bolt-on interface that holds live tools more rigidly than a VDI shank, and the driven tools have 3.7 kW (5.5 HP) at up to 4,000 rpm. Index time is 0.57 s for 12 stations.
Unusually, the live turret takes nothing away from turning diameter on this model. Maximum cutting diameter is 550 mm (21.7 in), equal to the two-axis SL40. Cutting length is 830 mm (32.7 in), with 900 mm (35.4 in) of Z travel and a tailstock that travels 900 mm (35.4 in) on an MT5 quill. X travel is 285 + 25 mm (11.2 + 1 in).
Rapid feed is 30 m/min (1,181 ipm) in X and 36 m/min (1,417 ipm) in Z. Listed weight is 6,700 kg (14,771 lb) and the power requirement 35 kVA. The maker's dimension row for the SL40MC has metric and inch figures that disagree, so no footprint is given on this page.
