Overview
Shafts in volume are the target of the Accuway UZ-2000T2MW. It has one spindle, a tailstock and two live turrets, so two tools cut the same shaft at once while it is held between chuck and centre. Accuway's heading is Multi-Axis Machine for Mass Production.
Two turrets on a shaft do more than halve the cutting time. With a tool on each side of the part, cutting forces largely oppose each other, so a slender shaft bends less and can be cut harder. One turret can also turn while the other drills or mills with its rotary tools, which run at 6,000 rpm on 3.7/5.5 kW (5.0/7.4 hp). There are 16+16 stations with BMT-40 tooling.
Maximum turning length is 790 mm (31.1 in) at a turning diameter of 320 mm (12.6 in). X1/X2 travel is 210 mm (8.3 in) and Z1/Z2 travel 840 mm (33.1 in). The tailstock body moves 770 mm (30.3 in); its quill is 85 mm (3.3 in) in diameter with an MT#5 taper and 120 mm (4.7 in) of travel.
