Overview

The Mazak QTE series is a compact turning center line in two sizes, QTE-100 and QTE-200, with 6 in and 8 in chucks, built-in motor spindles and a choice of turning-only, milling, Y-axis and second-spindle models. Eight models are listed, all carrying the SG designation, and all share a main spindle rated 15 kW (20 HP) at 40% ED and 11 kW (15 HP) continuous.

The plain turning model and the milling models are not the same machine with parts added. The QTE-200 SG, the plain turning model, has a Ø23 in (584 mm) swing, turns Ø14 in (356 mm), carries 8 tools and has 8 in (203 mm) of X with 13 in (330 mm) of Z. The QTE-200M has a Ø27 in (686 mm) swing, turns Ø13 in (330 mm), carries 12 tools and has 9 in (229 mm) of X with 24 in (610 mm) of Z. The bed classes in the table, 300U to 500U, and its 8-tool and 12-tool turrets reflect that split, and short chuck work belongs on the short machine.

In the smaller size, the QTE-100M runs a 6 in chuck to 6,000 rpm and turns Ø13 in (330 mm) by 22 in (559 mm) on 24 in (610 mm) of Z. The QTE-100MY and QTE-100MSY add 4 in (102 mm) of Y travel to that envelope. On Mazak's model list MY stands for milling with a Y-axis and MSY for milling, second spindle and Y-axis. Spindle speed is 5,000 rpm to 6,000 rpm and bar capacity Ø2 in (51 mm) to Ø3 in (76 mm). Mazak says the built-in motor spindle is designed for high torque in the low-speed range. Drum turrets have 8 or 12 positions, index without lifting and take 25 mm × 25 mm tool shanks.

Automation is optional: the Ez LOADER collaborative-robot system and a gantry loader with a choice of loader hands and work conveyors. Mazak notes that the Ez LOADER and the in-office digital setup function are supported only with the MAZATROL SmoothEz control.
