Overview
The Accurl SMART Giant X 12001.30L takes the 12 m plate that mills roll for structural and shipbuilding work. Its work area is 12,100 mm (476.4 in) long and 3,100 mm (122 in) wide, on a table rated at 750 kg/m².
Cutting a 12 m plate in one piece removes a weld from every long part. Girder webs, crane booms, hull panels and trailer rails all benefit, and so does nesting, because a long plate gives the software far more freedom than two short ones. This is the practical case for the model, and it does not depend on speed: the line's traverse speed is up to 49,500 mm/min.
Over such a length, the drive concept deserves attention. X and Y run on linear guides with helical toothed racks and are driven on both sides, and the steel crossbeam has what Accurl calls an intelligent lubrication system.
