How much does the Zayer ALTEA W cost?
Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Zayer ALTEA W that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The Zayer ALTEA W is the ALTEA gantry with a moving cross beam. The beam travels 900 mm (35.4 in) as a programmable W axis, which Zayer describes as a positioning axis: it is set to suit the height of the part, and the cutting is then done with the ram.
The working envelope is otherwise the ALTEA's. X travel is listed from 4,000 and 5,000 mm to 20,000 mm (787.4 in) and beyond, Y is 3,350 mm (131.9 in) with 3,850 or 4,350 mm (151.6 or 171.3 in) optional, and Z is 1,200 mm (47.2 in), or 1,500 mm (59.1 in). With Z that short, the W axis is what gives the machine its height range: a low plate and a tall fabricated frame can both be reached with the ram near its stiffest position.
Feeds follow the head family. A high torque head, 6,000 rpm and 30 kW (40.2 hp) with 43 kW (57.7 hp) optional, comes with 30,000 mm/min (1,181 ipm) cross and 32,000 mm/min (1,260 ipm) vertical rapid feed. A high speed head, 18,000 rpm and 33 kW (44.3 hp), raises those to 40,000 and 41,000 mm/min (1,575 and 1,614 ipm). Longitudinal rapid feed is 30,000 mm/min (1,181 ipm) for both.
The head list gains one entry over the fixed-beam machine, a 30º electrospindle head with continuous rotation, and does not mention an L shaped head at all. Two things are missing from Zayer's table for this model: it prints no positioning accuracy or repeatability, and no distance from table to spindle nose. Ask for both, since the second depends on where the beam sits. Pendulum work, an operator's platform and change of heads are options, and the magazine holds 30 tools, or 40 or 60.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- Moving cross beam with 900 mm (35.4 in) of W travel on a fixed-table gantry
- X travel from 4,000 mm to 20,000 mm (787.4 in) and beyond
- Optional 30º electrospindle head with continuous rotation
- High speed version reaches 41,000 mm/min (1,614 ipm) vertical rapid feed at 18,000 rpm
- Pendulum work is a listed option
Limitations
- Zayer describes the W axis as a positioning axis; on the ARES it is described as usable for machining too
- No positioning accuracy or repeatability figures are printed for this model
- The W travel is 900 mm (35.4 in) with no option; the THERA W offers 1,100 mm (43.3 in) or 1,350 mm (53.1 in)
- Tool magazine options stop at 60 tools

Frequently Asked Questions
01
The moving cross beam, which Zayer treats as a W axis. It has 900 mm (35.4 in) of displacement and is programmable. Zayer describes it as a positioning axis that allows the part to be machined with the greatest accuracy.
02
In travels, yes. Both list X from 4,000 mm to 20,000 mm (787.4 in) and beyond, 3,350 mm (131.9 in) of Y with the same options, and 1,200 mm (47.2 in) of Z. Table widths of 2,000, 2,500 or 3,000 mm and the 2,750 mm (108.3 in) column spacing are also shared.
03
Longitudinal rapid feed is 30,000 mm/min (1,181 ipm). Cross rapid feed is 30,000 mm/min (1,181 ipm) with a high torque head and 40,000 mm/min (1,575 ipm) with a high speed head. Vertical rapid feed is 32,000 mm/min (1,260 ipm) and 41,000 mm/min (1,614 ipm). Zayer gives no feed figure for the W axis.
04
Two head families. High torque heads run at 6,000 rpm on 30 kW (40.2 hp), with 43 kW (57.7 hp) optional. High speed heads run at 18,000 rpm on 33 kW (44.3 hp). A 40º head with a 42 kW, 15,000 rpm electrospindle is listed as a further option.
05
Zayer's specification table for this model has no accuracy rows, no distance from table to spindle nose, no table load and no machine weight. The sibling ALTEA lists 0.008/4,000 mm positioning accuracy, but that figure is not repeated here, so request the acceptance values for the W version.
