Overview

The TOS Kuřim FRF 200 is the narrowest of five FRF gantry machining centres: a movable gantry on a fixed cross-rail, running over a fixed table 2,000 mm (78.7 in) wide. Y travel is 2,900 mm (114.2 in), Z is 1,500 mm (59.1 in), and X is chosen at order from 4,000 - 24,000 by 1,000 mm (157.5 - 944.9 by 39.4 in).

That combination defines the work. A two-metre table under as much as 24,000 mm of gantry travel is a machine for long, fairly narrow parts: beams, frames, rails and bed sections. The gantry moves and the part stays still, so the length of the workpiece does not add to the floor space the way a travelling table would. The catalogue lists "maximum use of bulit-up space" among the FRF features and says the machine can be installed directly on the load-bearing floor of the hall.

Clearance between the columns is 2,550 mm (100.4 in) and the gap from table to cross-rail is 2,050 mm (80.7 in). The cross-rail is fixed, so that height is what you get; parts and fixtures taller than the gap need a different series. Reach into the part comes from the 1,500 mm Z stroke and from the exchangeable spindle heads the maker lists as accessories.

The spindle row reads 4,000/6,000 rpm and the drive power row 30/37/45 kW (40/50/60 hp), so both are choices rather than fixed figures. Feed is given as 1 - 20,000 mm/min on all three axes, with 1 - 30,000 mm/min in brackets. The workspace is either a plain fixed table or a fixed table with a carousel table let in, which is how the FRF covers turning as well as milling. The next size up, the FRF 250, has a 2,500 mm (98.4 in) table and 3,400 mm (133.9 in) of Y travel on the same Z and the same drive.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • X travel is ordered in steps: 4,000 - 24,000 by 1,000 mm (157.5 - 944.9 by 39.4 in), on a table 2,000 mm (78.7 in) wide
  • Movable gantry over a fixed table, so a long workpiece stays put and the foundation carries a static load
  • Drive power of 30/37/45 kW (40/50/60 hp) with a 4,000/6,000 rpm spindle, the same choice the wider FRF sizes get
  • Workspace can be a fixed table with a carousel table, and the maker lists a carousel and grinding function for the series
  • Listed as installable directly on the load-bearing floor of the hall

Limitations

  • The 2,000 mm (78.7 in) table and 2,550 mm (100.4 in) between columns are the smallest in the FRF series
  • Fixed cross-rail: the 2,050 mm (80.7 in) between table and cross-rail cannot be changed, and Z is a single 1,500 mm (59.1 in) stroke
  • Guideways are listed as linear roller only; the hydrostatic alternative appears on other series in the catalogue
  • The catalogue gives no torque, table load, tool magazine or control for this model, so those have to come from a quotation

Frequently Asked Questions

01 How big is the work envelope of the FRF 200?

Y travel is 2,900 mm (114.2 in) and Z travel is 1,500 mm (59.1 in). X is selected when the machine is ordered, from 4,000 - 24,000 by 1,000 mm (157.5 - 944.9 by 39.4 in). The table is 2,000 mm (78.7 in) wide, with 2,550 mm (100.4 in) between the columns and 2,050 mm (80.7 in) between the table and the cross-rail.

02 What spindle speed and power does the FRF 200 have?

The catalogue row for maximum spindle speed reads 4,000/6,000 rpm and the drive power row reads 30/37/45 kW (40/50/60 hp). Both are alternatives to settle in the quotation. Torque is not given for the machine itself; the maker describes the spindle only as having high torque and lists exchangeable heads separately.

03 Can the FRF 200 turn as well as mill?

The workspace row lists two layouts: a fixed table, or a fixed table with a carousel table. The series features add a multifunctional machine design with carousel and grinding function. The catalogue does not state the carousel diameter or speed for this size, so ask for those figures if turning is part of the job.

04 How does the FRF 200 differ from the FRF 250?

Width only. The FRF 250 has a 2,500 mm (98.4 in) table, 3,400 mm (133.9 in) of Y travel and 3,050 mm (120.1 in) between the columns. X options, the 1,500 mm Z stroke, feeds, spindle speeds and drive power are the same on both.
