Overview

The Zayer ARION is the smallest of Zayer's bridge type machines: a fixed cross beam over a moving table, with 3,000 or 4,000 mm (118.1 or 157.5 in) of X travel, 2,600 mm (102.4 in) of Y and 1,200 mm (47.2 in) of Z. Zayer positions it for speed, and it is offered with two head families that turn it into two different machines.

With a high torque head the spindle runs at 6,000 rpm, or 8,000 rpm as an option, on 33 kW (44.3 hp), with 43 or 61 kW (57.7 or 81.8 hp) optional. With a high speed head the standard is 18,000 rpm on 33 kW (44.3 hp), and the options reach 30,000 rpm and 123 kW (164.9 hp). The steps between are 15,000 and 24,000 rpm, and 56 and 63 kW (75.1 and 84.5 hp).

All three linear axes are driven by ball screws, which sets the ARION apart from the larger ARES and TEBAS, where the longitudinal axis is a rack and pinion. Rapid feed is 30,000 mm/min (1,181 ipm) and working feed 25,000 mm/min (984 ipm). The bed carries three linear guides; Zayer says the third, central guide is there to support heavy pieces. Table load is 15,000 kg (33,069 lb) on a table 1,600 mm (63.0 in) wide, or 2,000 mm (78.7 in) as an option.

Head family also changes the daylight. Maximum distance from table to spindle nose is 1,440 mm (56.7 in) with a high torque head and 1,240 mm (48.8 in) with a high speed head; the optional figures are 1,740 mm (68.5 in) and 1,540 mm (60.6 in). Change of heads, a rotary table and a complete enclosure with ceiling are options. Machine weight is about 35,000 to 50,000 kg (77,160 to 110,229 lb). The page lists no tool magazine capacity for this model.

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What is the difference between the high torque and high speed ARION?

They are two head families. High torque: 6,000 rpm, optionally 8,000 rpm, with a 45º head as standard. High speed: a 30º head with a 33 kW, 18,000 rpm electrospindle as standard, with options of 15,000, 24,000 or 30,000 rpm. The distance from table to spindle nose also differs, 1,440 mm (56.7 in) against 1,240 mm (48.8 in).

02 What are the travels of the Zayer ARION?

X is 3,000 or 4,000 mm (118.1 or 157.5 in). Y is 2,600 mm (102.4 in), or 3,100 mm (122.0 in) as an option. Z is 1,200 mm (47.2 in), or 1,500 mm (59.1 in) as an option. The distance between columns is 2,000 mm (78.7 in), with 2,500 mm (98.4 in) optional.

03 How much can the ARION table carry?

15,000 kg (33,069 lb). The table is 3,000 or 4,000 mm long and 1,600 mm (63.0 in) wide, with a 2,000 mm (78.7 in) width optional. Zayer adds a third, central linear guide in the bed to support heavy pieces.

04 How does the ARION compare with the ARES?

The ARION has a fixed cross beam and ball screws on every axis, and stops at 4,000 mm (157.5 in) of X. The ARES starts there, runs to 6,000 mm (236.2 in), carries 20,000 kg (44,092 lb) and adds a moving cross beam with 900 mm (35.4 in) of displacement.

05 Which options does Zayer list for the ARION?

Change of heads, a rotary table and a complete enclosure with ceiling are optional. Optional heads are a 45º head with continuous rotation and a 30º head on the high torque side, and a 40º head with a 42 kW, 15,000 rpm electrospindle and a TWIST head on the high speed side. Chip conveyor and coolant tank are standard.
