How much does the Zayer KAIROS cost?
Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Zayer KAIROS that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The Zayer KAIROS is a moving column milling machine: the column travels along the bed and the work stays still on a floor table, a rotary table or both. Because the table does not move, X travel is a matter of bed length. Zayer lists it from 3,000 and 4,000 mm upward, past 30,000 mm (1,181.1 in).
The vertical axis is what marks the KAIROS out. Standard Z travel is 1,600 mm (63.0 in), and the option list runs through 2,000, 2,500 and 3,000 mm to 7,000 mm (275.6 in) and beyond. The axis is a ball screw with a direct motor and a compensation cylinder, and Zayer notes a double rack and pinion drive for verticals above 5500. Cross travel, the reach of the ram, is 1,200 mm (47.2 in), or 1,600 or 2,000 mm (63.0 or 78.7 in) as options.
Feeds are stated as limits: rapid feed up to 35,000 mm/min (1,378 ipm) and working feed up to 25,000 mm/min (984 ipm). On a machine whose weight is listed at about 30,000 to 150,000 kg (66,138 to 330,688 lb), the achievable rate depends on the size built. Power is 41 kW (55.0 hp), with 61 kW (81.8 hp) optional, and the spindle head runs at 6,000 rpm or an optional 8,000 rpm.
Eleven heads appear in the accessory table. The 45º automatic head is standard, and the options include a 30º head with a 33 kW electrospindle, a 40º head with a 42 kW, 15,000 rpm electrospindle, direct outlet heads and L shaped heads. Change of heads is itself an option. So are the fixed floor table and the rotary table, which means the base machine is a column and a bed, and the work-holding side is configured per order. Zayer also points to pendulum work, where two zones along the bed are loaded in turn.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- X travel from 3,000 mm to beyond 30,000 mm (1,181.1 in), set by bed length
- Vertical travel options to 7,000 mm (275.6 in) and beyond
- Eleven listed heads, including direct outlet, L shaped and electrospindle types
- Pendulum work along the bed, with fixed floor table and rotary table options
- 41 kW (55.0 hp) as standard, 61 kW (81.8 hp) optional
Limitations
- Fixed floor table, rotary table and change of heads are all options, so the base specification has no table
- Working feed is limited to 25,000 mm/min (984 ipm)
- Zayer publishes no table load, since the table is configured separately
- Weighs about 30,000 to 150,000 kg (66,138 to 330,688 lb), a foundation project in its own right

Frequently Asked Questions
01
Zayer lists longitudinal travel from 3,000 and 4,000 mm up to 30,000 mm (1,181.1 in), and the row ends with an ellipsis, so longer beds are offered. The longitudinal axis is driven by a rack with a double motor and pinion, the usual choice where a ball screw would be too long.
02
Standard vertical travel is 1,600 mm (63.0 in). Options start at 2,000 mm (78.7 in) and run to 7,000 mm (275.6 in), again with an ellipsis after the last figure. The vertical drive is a ball screw, with a double rack and pinion drive noted for verticals above 5500.
03
Not in the base machine. The accessory table marks the fixed floor table and the rotary table as optional, and Zayer describes the KAIROS as offered with an independent fixed table, a rotary table or both. Table size and load are therefore part of the quotation, not of the published specification.
04
The 45º automatic head is standard. Ten optional heads are listed: two more 45º heads, a 30º head, a 30º head with a 33 kW electrospindle, a 40º head with a 42 kW, 15,000 rpm electrospindle, direct outlet heads with and without reduction, and three L shaped heads. Change of heads is optional.
05
Both are moving column machines with the same 41 kW (55.0 hp) base power and 1,200 mm (47.2 in) standard cross travel. The KRONOS stops at 7,000 mm (275.6 in) of X and 2,000 mm (78.7 in) of Z and comes with a complete enclosure with ceiling. The KAIROS is the open, larger design, with X beyond 30,000 mm (1,181.1 in).
