Overview
The Vision Wide XMF-42 is the tall version of the maker's moving column machines. Z travel is 2,500 mm (98.4 in) as standard and 3,000 mm (118.1 in) as an option, carried in a ram of 680 x 680 mm (26.8 x 26.8 in).
Those two figures go together. A ram that extends two and a half metres has to be heavy in section to stay stiff at full reach, and this one is the largest in the family; the XM-42, with the same Y travel, uses a 470x460 mm (18.5x18.1 in) ram for 1,000 mm of Z.
Spindle nose to table distance is 500~3,000 mm (19.7~118.1 in) with the standard Z and 500~3,500 mm (19.7~137.8 in) with the longer one. Maximum workpiece width is 4,600 mm (181.1 in), with 4,200 mm (165.4 in) of Y travel. So the working space is a tunnel roughly four and a half metres wide and three high, as long as the bed is built: X travel is 8,200(+1m)~60,200 mm.
Turbine and generator casings, large gearbox housings, press crowns and ship engine parts are the kind of work that needs it. The spindle is the family standard, 22/26 kW (29.5/34.9 hp) at 4,000 rpm through a 2-step gear, and the fixed table takes 5,000 kg/m2.
