Overview

The OPS Ingersoll HIGH SPEED EAGLE V5 is a compact high-speed milling machine for 3-, 4- or 5-axis work, with 550 / 400 / 400 mm (21.7 / 15.7 / 15.7 in) of travel and a choice of two high-frequency spindles. HSK E40 runs to 42,000 rpm; HSK E50 runs to 36,000 rpm. Spindle power is given as 15 kW / 17 kW (20.1 / 22.8 hp).

The spindle choice sets the character of the machine. HSK E40 is the electrode and fine-detail option and comes with a 32-position changer. HSK E50 gives a stiffer interface for steel at the cost of top speed. If tool count is the worry, MultiTool magazines of 100 or 150 tools are optional.

Rotary axes come as an option in two forms. The geared HSC round swivel table swings B from -120° to +60° and turns C at 20 rpm with 250 kg (551 lb) on board. The torque-driven version widens B to -140° / +60°, raises C to 100 rpm and carries 200 kg (441 lb). Fitting torque drives also shifts the spindle-nose-to-table distance, from 155 / 555 mm to 205 / 605 mm. That is a detail worth checking against your tallest fixture.

OPS Ingersoll sells the machine in two equipment lines. The Competition-Line has active temperature control of the drive components and the HF spindle as standard; the Precision Line adds measures for which the maker quotes an accuracy of less than 10 µm in 5-axis machining. Both lines include a HEIDENHAIN TNC 640 control with a 19" touchscreen, a polymer concrete bed and a full enclosure, and the maker points to graphite and other dust-forming materials as well as steel. The machine weighs 8,500 kg (18,739 lb) on a 2,756 x 2,039 mm (108.5 x 80.3 in) footprint.

Frequently Asked Questions

01 Which spindles are available on the HIGH SPEED EAGLE V5?

Two high-frequency spindles are listed: HSK E40 with a range of 1-42,000 rpm and HSK E50 with 1-36,000 rpm. Spindle power is stated as 15 kW / 17 kW. The product page adds that different HF spindles from Fischer and STEPTEC are optional, and the brochure offers all milling spindles with internal coolant supply for air, aerosol or water.

02 What is the difference between the Competition-Line and the Precision Line?

Both share the standard scope: TNC 640 control, polymer concrete bed, sealed absolute linear encoders, full enclosure, laser and probe. The Competition-Line has active temperature control of the drive components and the HF spindle as standard. For the Precision Line the maker quotes an accuracy of less than 10 µm for 5-axis machining, with active temperature control of all drive components.

03 What does the 5-axis option of the HIGH SPEED EAGLE V5 consist of?

An HSC round swivel table mounted on the T-slot table. With gear drive, B covers -120° / +60°, C turns at 20 rpm and the workpiece may weigh 250 kg (551 lb). With torque drive, B covers -140° / +60°, C reaches 100 rpm and the limit is 200 kg (441 lb). The listed 5-axis workpiece size is Ø 400 mm by 380 mm high.

04 How many tools does the HIGH SPEED EAGLE V5 hold?

With the HSK E40 spindle the changer has 32 positions. For the other spindle the brochure prints the row as "24/32 position (HSK E50)". A MultiTool magazine with 100 or 150 tools is optional.

05 What are the dimensions and weight of the HIGH SPEED EAGLE V5?

Footprint is 2,756 x 2,039 mm (108.5 x 80.3 in) with a height of 2,510 mm (98.8 in). Total weight is 8,500 kg (18,739 lb) and the connected load is 32 kVA. The HIGH SPEED EAGLE V9 is the larger alternative at 11,500 kg (25,353 lb).
