Overview

With 850 mm (33.5 in) of X travel and 550 mm (21.7 in) on both Y and Z, the Vision Wide SV-855 is the second size in the SV vertical machining center series. Its table is 1,000×510 mm (39.4×20.1 in), so the table is longer than the X travel and leaves room at each end for clamps.

Compared with the SV-800 the gain is depth. Y grows from 500 mm (19.7 in) to 550 mm (21.7 in) and Z from 510 mm (20.1 in) to 550 mm (21.7 in), useful when a part sits on a rotary table or in a tall vise. What does not grow is the load rating: both machines are listed at 500 kg (1,102 lb). And the SV-855 is the slower of the two on paper, with 30 / 30 / 24 m/min rapids against the 36 / 36 / 30 m/min of the SV-800.

The spindle rating is 7.5 / 11 kW (10.1 / 14.8 hp), continuous and short-time. 10,000 rpm is the standard speed; the table lists 12,000 / 15,000 rpm after it, and the accessory lists place those spindles among the options. All of them are #40 and direct driven.

A buyer comparing sizes should look one step further up as well. The SV-1166 keeps the same rapids but has 1,100 mm (43.3 in) of X, a 1,200×610 mm (47.2×24.0 in) table and a 700 kg (1,543 lb) load rating. If the parts already crowd a 510 mm (20.1 in) table, that is the better fit.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • 550 mm (21.7 in) of travel on both Y and Z, more than the 500 mm (19.7 in) and 510 mm (20.1 in) of the SV-800
  • 1,000×510 mm (39.4×20.1 in) table, longer than the 850 mm (33.5 in) X travel
  • FANUC 0iMF PLUS controller is on the standard accessory list
  • Front large door and sliding doors at both sides for loading
  • Auto tool length measurement and auto workpiece coordinate measurement can be ordered

Limitations

  • Rapids of 30 / 30 / 24 m/min are lower than the 36 / 36 / 30 m/min of the smaller SV-800
  • Table load stays at 500 kg (1,102 lb) despite the larger table
  • Speeds above 10,000 rpm need an optional spindle
  • The cutting feed range is 1-10 m/min

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What is the work envelope of the Vision Wide SV-855?

Travels are 850 mm (33.5 in) in X, 550 mm (21.7 in) in Y and 550 mm (21.7 in) in Z. The table is 1,000×510 mm (39.4×20.1 in) with a maximum load of 500 kg (1,102 lb).

02 Is the SV-855 faster than the SV-800?

No. The SV-855 lists 30 / 30 / 24 m/min rapids and a 1-10 m/min cutting feed range. The SV-800 lists 36 / 36 / 30 m/min and 1-11 m/min. The SV-855 is the choice for the extra Y and Z travel, not for speed.

03 What control is fitted to the SV-855?

The standard accessory list for the SV series names the FANUC 0iMF PLUS controller. The optional list names a MISTUBISHI M70 controller / HEIDENHAIN iTNC 620 controller, spelled as the maker prints it.

04 What spindle power does the SV-855 have?

The table gives 7.5 / 11 kW (10.1 / 14.8 hp), continuous and short-time. Standard speed is 10,000 rpm, with 12,000 / 15,000 rpm direct driven spindles on the optional list.
