Overview

The Vision Wide GSA-1627 is the shortest machine in the GSA series of 3+2 axis gantry type machining centers. Its fixed table measures 1,600×2,700 mm (63.0×106.3 in), with 1,600 mm (63.0 in) of X travel and 2,700 mm (106.3 in) of Y.

What makes it 3+2 is the head. Vision Wide fits its own IAC indexing attached head, a two-axis head that sets the spindle to an angle and locks there while the three linear axes do the cutting. Indexing is automatic in steps of 1 degree on both the B axis and the C axis. The maker says the head shortens tool travel and the cutting process and is meant for composite angle machining.

In practice that means a short, stiff tool can be pointed at a steep mold wall or an angled hole where a three-axis machine would need a long tool reaching down from above.

The spindle is strong for a high-speed head: 50/65 kW (67.1/87.2 hp) at 15,000 rpm, with an HSK-A100 interface on the standard IAC-15,000rpm unit. Rapid traverse is 32/32/20 m/min and cutting feed 1~20,000 mm/min. The control is a HEIDENHAIN TNC640. Z travel is 1,000 mm, with 1,200 mm as an option.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • IAC indexing attached head with automatic 1-degree indexing on B and C
  • 50/65 kW (67.1/87.2 hp) spindle at 15,000 rpm
  • Rapid traverse of 32/32/20 m/min
  • HEIDENHAIN TNC640 controller as standard
  • X axis dual linear scale and Y/Z-axis linear scale are standard

Limitations

  • Indexed positioning only; the page describes a 3+2 axis machine, not continuous five-axis cutting
  • X travel of 1,600 mm (63.0 in) is the shortest in the series
  • Standard magazine is a vertical type 20T; 32T is optional

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What is the IAC head on the Vision Wide GSA-1627?

IAC stands for indexing attached head in Vision Wide's text. It is a two-axis head that indexes automatically, 1 degree per step on the B axis and on the C axis, so the spindle can be set at an angle for 3+2 axis machining.

02 Is the GSA-1627 a simultaneous 5-axis machine?

Vision Wide calls the GSA a 3+2 axis gantry type machining center with an indexing head. For continuous five-axis work the maker has the GSF series; the GSF-1627 has the same travels with direct-driven B and C axes.

03 What are the GSA-1627 travels?

X is 1,600 mm (63.0 in), Y is 2,700 mm (106.3 in) and Z is 1,000/1,200 mm (39.4/47.2 in)(Opt.), the longer Z being optional.

04 What spindle does the GSA-1627 have?

The standard head is listed as IAC-15,000rpm/HSK-A100. Spindle power is 50/65 kW (67.1/87.2 hp) and the feature list notes a high tool clamping force of 20kN.
