Overview

On the Vision Wide BM-5030 / 5037 the cross rail is a cutting axis, not just a height adjustment. Vision Wide says the W-axis feed cuts in synchronism with the other axes, and that the rail can carry precision feeding and heavy cutting. The W cutting feed is listed as 1,000 mm/min, against 1-7,000 mm/min for X, Y and Z.

That widens what the machine can do with a tall part. With the ram kept short and the rail feeding downward, a deep bore or a tall side wall can be machined with the head close to the beam instead of at the end of a long extension. A short ram is a stiff one.

Holding a moving beam level is the hard part of this design. The rail is driven by dual synchronized servo motors, one each side, and dual linear scales for the W axis are standard, so each end is measured and the two are kept in step.

The machine has 5,100 mm (200.8 in) of X travel and a 5,000×2,450 mm (196.9×96.5 in) table for 20,000 kg (44,092 lb). Y is 3,000 mm, or 3,700 mm on the second model of the pair. Rapids are 10 / 10 / 12 / 2 m/min. Power is 22/26 kW (29.5/34.9 hp), with 30/37 kW (40.2/49.6 hp) as an option.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • W axis feeds while cutting, synchronised with the other axes
  • Dual linear scales for the W axis are standard
  • 5,000×2,450 mm (196.9×96.5 in) table for 20,000 kg (44,092 lb)
  • 30/37 kW (40.2/49.6 hp) motor available

Limitations

  • W cutting feed of 1,000 mm/min and W rapid of 2 m/min
  • X/Y/Z linear scales are optional; only W has them as standard
  • X and Y rapids of 10 m/min

Frequently Asked Questions

01 Can the cross rail of the Vision Wide BM-5030 cut while it moves?

Yes, according to the maker: the BM series is described as unique for its movable cross rail and W-axis feed cutting in synchronism with the other axial feeds. W cutting feed is listed as 1,000 mm/min.

02 How is the BM-5030 cross rail kept level?

It is positioned by a dual synchronized servo motor driving system, with dual linear scales for the W axis as standard. A hydraulic system controls the parallelism of the rail's travel, per the maker's description.

03 What are the travels of the BM-5030 / 5037?

X is 5,100 mm (200.8 in). Y is 3,000/ 3,700 mm (118.1/ 145.7 in). Z and W each start at 1,000 mm, with Z options of 1,200 mm and 1,400 mm and W options of 1,200 mm and 1,500 mm.

04 What does the BM-5030 table carry?

20,000 kg (44,092 lb) on a 5,000×2,450 mm (196.9×96.5 in) table. The BM-4030 carries 16,000 kg (35,273 lb) and the BM-6030 carries 22,000 kg (48,501 lb).
