Overview

Two motors and two scales drive the X axis of the Vision Wide GS-1620. On a gantry machine the bridge is pushed along from both sides, and if the two sides do not stay in step the bridge skews. Vision Wide fits the X-axis with dual direct-driven servo motors plus dual linear scales, which it says ensure positioning accuracy at high-speed motion.

Each side is measured on its own scale, so the control sees and corrects any difference between them. The Z-axis is direct-driven as well; the maker says this prevents the error that an indirect drive between mechanisms would add. XYZ axis linear scale feedback is on the standard list.

The GS-1620 has 1,600 mm (63.0 in) of X travel and 2,000 mm (78.7 in) of Y, over a 1,600 x 2,000 mm (63.0 x 78.7 in) fixed table rated at 3,000 kg/m2. Z travel is 800 mm, with 1,000 mm optional.

It is built for mold and aluminum work at speed: 15,000 rpm, cutting feed of 1-24,000 mm/min and 24 / 24 / 24 m/min rapids. Power is 15 / 18.5 kW (20.1 / 24.8 hp). The control is a Fanuc 0iMF PLUS, with Fanuc 31iB and HEIDENHAIN TNC 620/640 as options.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • X-axis with dual direct-driven servo motors and dual linear scales
  • Direct-driven Z-axis by servo motor
  • 1,600 x 2,000 mm (63.0 x 78.7 in) fixed table at 3,000 kg/m2
  • HEIDENHAIN TNC 620/640 control available as an option

Limitations

  • X travel of 1,600 mm (63.0 in) is shorter than the 2,000 mm (78.7 in) Y travel
  • Standard Z travel is 800 mm
  • 15 / 18.5 kW (20.1 / 24.8 hp) limits heavy roughing in steel

Frequently Asked Questions

01 How is the X axis driven on the Vision Wide GS-1620?

By dual direct-driven servo motors with dual linear scales, according to the maker's feature text. The Z-axis is also direct-driven by a servo motor.

02 What are the GS-1620 travels and table size?

X travel is 1,600 mm (63.0 in), Y travel 2,000 mm (78.7 in) and Z travel 800 / 1,000 mm (31.5 / 39.4 in) (Opt.). The table is 1,600 x 2,000 mm (63.0 x 78.7 in).

03 Which controls can the GS-1620 have?

The Fanuc 0iMF PLUS controller is standard. The option list names the Fanuc 31iB Controller and the HEIDENHAIN TNC 620/640 Controller.

04 Is the GS-1620 a high-speed machine?

Yes. The spindle is a direct-driven 15,000rpm unit, the cutting feed range is 1-24,000 mm/min and rapid traverse is 24 / 24 / 24 m/min, with 30 / 30 / 24 m/min as an option.
