Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Thielenhaus KM 90 evo that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The Thielenhaus KM 90 evo is the NC-adjusted alternative to the BearingStar 90 for the same ring diameters: outer rings of 26 – 90 mm (1.0 – 3.5 in) outside diameter and inner rings of 10 – 50 mm (0.39 – 2.0 in) inner diameter. It is a fully automatic Microfinish machine with 2 machining stations for 1- or 2-step raceway finishing.
How it is set up is what separates it. The radial or linear oscillation unit is direct driven, with automatic adjustment of oscillation, oscillation angle and stroke, and the X-Z axis position of the raceways is set by NC. Thielenhaus also lists automatic programming and driver height adjustment. On a line that changes ring type often, those features take manual work out of each changeover.
The numbers moved too. Workpiece spindle speed is 0 – 10,000 rpm and loading and unloading takes 1.0 s, compared with 6,000 rpm and 1.8 s on the BearingStar 90. Ring width extends to 55 mm (2.2 in). In return the oscillation angle is ±0 – 16° and stone contact pressure 0 – 140 N, where the BearingStar 90 lists ±0 – 18° and 0 – 170 N.
Ball and roller bearing raceways can be microfinished in just one machine, and the outer raceway and board of tapered roller inner rings are covered. HyperFinish technology is an option; Thielenhaus credits it with up to 4 µm more material removal and names it for four-point ball bearing raceways. Menu-guided setup is optional as well. Tooling from the previous version can be reused, which matters to a plant that already owns it.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- Direct drive radial or linear oscillation unit with automatic adjustment of oscillation, oscillation angle and stroke
- NC setting of the X-Z axis position of the raceways is standard
- Workpiece spindle speed of 0 – 10,000 rpm and loading and unloading in 1.0 s
- Ball and roller bearing raceways are microfinished in just one machine
- Ring widths of 8 – 55 mm, against 8 – 35 mm on the BearingStar 90
- Uses tooling from the previous version
Limitations
- Stone contact pressure is 0 – 140 N, below the 0 – 170 N of the BearingStar 90
- Oscillation angle is limited to ±0 – 16°
- HyperFinish technology and menu-guided setup are options, not part of the base machine
- Always built with 2 machining stations; the table shows no 1-station version

Frequently Asked Questions
01
The ring diameters are the same, 26 – 90 mm outside and 10 – 50 mm inside. The KM 90 evo replaces the mechanical, manually adjusted oscillation unit with a direct drive unit that adjusts automatically, sets the raceway position by NC, runs to 10,000 rpm and loads and unloads in 1.0 s. The BearingStar 90 lists 6,000 rpm and 1.8 s.
02
No, the comparison table shows it as yes (optional). Thielenhaus describes HyperFinish technology as giving up to 4 µm more material removal and as the process for four-point ball bearing raceways. Menu-guided setup is also an option.
03
Oscillation frequency is 0 – 1,200 double stroke/min, the oscillation angle ±0 – 16° and the linear oscillation stroke 0 – 6 mm (0 – 0.24 in). Stone contact pressure is adjustable from 0 – 140 N. The oscillation unit is direct driven and is listed as a radial or linear unit.
04
Two machining stations. Thielenhaus lists a 1- or 2-step machining option, so the stations can either share one operation or split pre-finishing and final finishing. Outer or inner rings are machined in one machine, to P2 raceway quality.
