Thielenhaus BearingStar 120 — price

Price estimate: uncertain

We have no price for the Thielenhaus BearingStar 120 that we can cite and no estimate we can stand behind, so this page shows no number rather than a guess. A quote from Thielenhaus Technologies or an authorised dealer is the reliable figure.

What moves the final price

  • Spindle, control and probing options
  • Tool changer capacity and tooling package
  • Automation — pallet changers, bar feeders, robot cells
  • Freight, rigging, installation and training
  • Region, dealer and time of year

Overview

The Thielenhaus BearingStar 120 is the larger of the two machines on Thielenhaus's shared BS 90 / BS 120 data sheet. It takes outer rings of 60 – 120 mm (2.4 – 4.7 in) outside diameter, inner rings of 30 – 80 mm (1.2 – 3.1 in) inside diameter and ring widths of 12 – 40 mm (0.47 – 1.6 in).

Only those three rows differ from the BearingStar 90. Spindle speed, oscillation and stone pressure are printed once for both machines: 0 – 6,000 rpm at the workpiece spindle, 0 – 1,200 double strokes per minute, an oscillation angle of ±0 – 18°, a linear stroke of 0 – 6 mm (0 – 0.24 in) and 0 – 170 N of stone contact pressure. The bigger rings run on the same spindle and stone ranges as the smaller ones, so the choice between the two machines is about ring size and not about process capability.

The size ranges overlap. Outer rings from 60 mm up to the 90 mm limit of the BearingStar 90 fit either machine, and so do inner rings between 30 mm and 50 mm. Above this machine the next step is the BearingStar 200, which starts at 85 mm outside diameter and works with a stone contact pressure of 80 – 360 N.

Configuration follows the shared data sheet: 1 or 2 machining stations, 1-step machining on a 1-station machine and 1- or 2-step machining as desired on a 2-station machine. Oscillation is mechanical, radial or linear, with mechanical adjustment of the raceway position, and Thielenhaus states P2 raceway quality. The maker's website shows a 90 series but not this size, so confirm with Thielenhaus that it is still offered.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • Outer rings of 60 – 120 mm outside diameter and inner rings of 30 – 80 mm inside diameter
  • Ring widths of 12 – 40 mm, against 8 – 35 mm on the BearingStar 90
  • 1 or 2 machining stations, with 1- or 2-step machining on the 2-station machine
  • Mechanical radial or linear oscillation with an angle of ±0 – 18° and a stroke of 0 – 6 mm
  • P2 raceway quality, with outer or inner rings in one machine

Limitations

  • Stone contact pressure is limited to 0 – 170 N; the BearingStar 200 offers 80 – 360 N
  • Oscillation and raceway position are adjusted mechanically according to the shared data sheet
  • No technical data for weight, footprint or connections are printed
  • Narrowest ring is 12 mm wide; the data sheet sends anything narrower to the BearingStar 90

Frequently Asked Questions

01 How does the BearingStar 120 differ from the BearingStar 90?

In ring size only, as far as the data sheet shows. The BearingStar 120 takes 60 – 120 mm outside diameter, 30 – 80 mm inside diameter and 12 – 40 mm width. The BearingStar 90 takes 26 – 90 mm, 10 – 50 mm and 8 – 35 mm. Spindle speed, oscillation and stone contact pressure are printed as common values.

02 What spindle speed and oscillation does it offer?

The workpiece spindle runs from 0 – 6,000 rpm. Oscillation frequency is 0 – 1,200 double stroke/min, the oscillation angle ±0 – 18° and the linear oscillation stroke 0 – 6 mm (0 – 0.24 in). Stone contact pressure is adjustable from 0 – 170 N.

03 Which ring types can it finish?

Thielenhaus lists 1- or 2-row radial ball bearings, axial ball bearings, 1- or 2-row angular ball bearings, cylindrical roller bearings and tapered roller bearings. Outer or inner rings are machined in one machine, with mechanical radial or linear oscillation.

04 When is the BearingStar 200 the better fit?

When rings exceed 120 mm outside diameter or need more stone force. The BearingStar 200 covers 85 – 200 mm outside diameter with 80 – 360 N of stone contact pressure, but its workpiece spindle is limited to 3,000 rpm and its narrowest ring is 15 mm.
