How much does the Takisawa TMX-4000 cost?
Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Takisawa TMX-4000 that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The Takisawa TMX-4000 is a long-bed B-axis multi-tasking machine: 1,500 mm (59.1 in) of turning length and Z travel, a 500 mm (19.7 in) maximum turning diameter and 10 in (254 mm) chucks. The table covers three versions: the TMX-4000Ⅱ with a tailstock, the TMX-4000ⅡS with a right spindle, and the TMX-4000ⅡST with a right spindle and a 12-station lower turret.
The ⅡST is the one that changes how the machine works. With a lower turret under the part, a turning tool can cut while the B-axis tool spindle mills or turns above it, or the turret can carry the cycle on one spindle while the tool spindle works at the other. The ⅡS keeps the two spindles but leaves all cutting to the tool spindle. The Ⅱ, with its tailstock and a single 10 in chuck, is the shaft machine.
Power is high on every spindle. The left spindle is rated 26 kW (34.9 hp) at S2 30-min and 22 kW (29.5 hp) continuous; the right spindle 22 kW at S2 15-min and 15 kW (20.1 hp) continuous. Both run to 4,000 rpm. The tool spindle reaches 12,000 rpm and is rated 22 / 15 kW in its high range, enough to drive face mills and large drills and not only small cutters.
Travels are 605 mm (23.8 in) in X, 260 mm (10.2 in) in Y and 1,500 mm in Z, with 40 m/min (1,575 in/min) rapids on X1, Y1 and Z1 and 30 m/min (1,181 in/min) on A. The B axis is direct-drive, covers 230° (±115°) and has a minimum indexing step of 0.0001°. Bar capacity through the left spindle is 80 mm (3.1 in), depending on chuck and cylinder. Tool capacity is 40, with 80 and 120 as options.
This is a large installation. With the 40-tool magazine and chip conveyor the footprint is 6,950 × 4,478 mm (273.6 × 176.3 in), height is 3,160 mm (124.4 in) and weight is 17,000 kg (37,478 lb). The operator has a two-screen panel, 19 in and 10.4 in, running the iHMI interface.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- 1,500 mm (59.1 in) of turning length with a 500 mm (19.7 in) maximum turning diameter
- 26 / 22 kW (34.9 / 29.5 hp) left spindle and 22 / 15 kW (29.5 / 20.1 hp) right spindle, both 4,000 rpm
- 12,000 rpm tool spindle rated 22 / 15 kW (29.5 / 20.1 hp) in high range
- TMX-4000ⅡST version adds a 12-station lower turret alongside the right spindle
- Direct-drive B axis with a 230° (±115°) range and 0.0001° minimum indexing
- 40 tools as standard, with 80 and 120 as options
Limitations
- Footprint of 6,950 × 4,478 mm (273.6 × 176.3 in) and a height of 3,160 mm (124.4 in) with the smallest magazine
- Weighs 17,000 kg (37,478 lb), so foundation and lifting capacity need checking
- The lower turret is listed only on the TMX-4000ⅡST; the ⅡS and Ⅱ cut with the tool spindle alone
- Turning spindles top out at 4,000 rpm, against 5,000 rpm on the TMX-2000
- Y travel is 260 mm (10.2 in), which limits off-centre milling on parts near the 500 mm (19.7 in) turning diameter

Frequently Asked Questions
01
The TMX-4000ⅡST has a right spindle and a 12-station lower turret. The TMX-4000ⅡS has a right spindle and no lower turret. The TMX-4000Ⅱ has a tailstock. The ⅡST and ⅡS carry two 10 in (254 mm) chucks; the Ⅱ carries one.
02
The left spindle has 26 kW (34.9 hp) at S2 30-min and 22 kW (29.5 hp) continuous. The right spindle has 22 kW (29.5 hp) at S2 15-min and 15 kW (20.1 hp) continuous. Both are listed at 4,000 rpm. The tool spindle is 12,000 rpm with 22 / 15 kW (29.5 / 20.1 hp) in high range, on an S3/S6 25% rating against continuous.
03
X travel is 605 mm (23.8 in), Y is 260 mm (10.2 in) and Z is 1,500 mm (59.1 in). Rapids are 40 m/min (1,575 in/min) on X1, Y1 and Z1, and 30 m/min (1,181 in/min) on the A axis. The B axis is direct-drive with a 230° (±115°) range and a minimum indexing step of 0.0001°.
04
40 tools as standard, with 80-tool and 120-tool capacities as options. The listed floor space of 6,950 × 4,478 mm (273.6 × 176.3 in) is for the 40-tool magazine including the chip conveyor, so a larger magazine should be checked on the layout drawing. On the ⅡST, the 12-station lower turret holds tools in addition to that count.
05
The TEX-2500S is the smaller twin-spindle machine: 400 mm (15.7 in) of turning diameter, 1,100 mm (43.3 in) of turning length, 30 tools as standard and 12,000 kg (26,455 lb). The TMX-4000 turns 500 mm (19.7 in) by 1,500 mm (59.1 in), starts at 40 tools and weighs 17,000 kg (37,478 lb). Both use 10 in (254 mm) chucks and 4,000 rpm turning spindles.
