Overview

The Takisawa TS-3000 is the 8 in (203 mm) chuck size of the TS turning-centre range, with an A2-6 main spindle nose, 67 mm (2.6 in) of bar capacity and a 15 kW (20.1 hp) left spindle that runs to 5,000 rpm. It is sold as the TS-3000YS, with a right spindle, or the TS-3000Y, with an NC servo tailstock.

The YS is an unequal pairing: 8 in on the left and 6 in (152 mm) on the right. The right spindle is rated 11 / 7.5 kW (14.8 / 10.1 hp) and is the faster of the two at 6,000 rpm. That arrangement fits parts whose first operation removes most of the stock and whose second operation is a lighter finish on a smaller gripped diameter. If both sides need equal treatment at 6 in, the TS-2000 has matched chucks; if the first side needs more, the TS-4000 moves to a 10 in (254 mm) chuck and 22 / 15 kW (29.5 / 20.1 hp).

Turret choice changes the envelope, and the table sets it out. The standard all-holder turret has 12 stations, and a 10-station turret is optional; either one turns 370 mm (14.6 in) in diameter and 550 mm (21.7 in) in length. The optional 15-station turret turns 315 mm (12.4 in) by 535 mm (21.1 in). The optional 20-station turret turns 292 mm (11.5 in) by 545 mm (21.5 in). For bar work at 67 mm none of that matters. For chucking work near the top of the 8 in range it decides which turret can be ordered.

Live tools run to 6,000 rpm with a 7.5 / 3.7 kW (10.1 / 5.0 hp) motor, S3 25% against continuous. Rapids on the TS-3000YS are 30 m/min (1,181 in/min) in X, Z and A and 10 m/min (394 in/min) in Y; the tailstock version lists A at 13 m/min. Left spindle power is 15 kW at 30-min and 11 kW (14.8 hp) continuous.

Without oil pan and chip conveyor, the TS-3000YS measures 2,800 × 2,140 mm (110.2 × 84.3 in) and the TS-3000Y 2,800 × 2,070 mm (110.2 × 81.5 in), each 2,300 mm (90.6 in) high. Listed weights are 6,200 kg (13,668 lb) and 6,000 kg (13,228 lb).

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • A2-6 spindle nose with an 8 in (203 mm) chuck and 67 mm (2.6 in) of bar capacity
  • 15 / 11 kW (20.1 / 14.8 hp) left spindle at up to 5,000 rpm
  • TS-3000YS right spindle reaches 6,000 rpm with 11 / 7.5 kW (14.8 / 10.1 hp)
  • Four turret sizes: 12 stations standard, with 10, 15 or 20 optional
  • Live tools at 6,000 rpm with 7.5 kW (10.1 hp) at S3 25%

Limitations

  • The right spindle carries a 6 in (152 mm) chuck, smaller than the 8 in on the left, so second-operation gripping diameter is limited
  • The 20-station turret cuts maximum turning diameter from 370 mm (14.6 in) to 292 mm (11.5 in)
  • Y rapid is 10 m/min (394 in/min) against 30 m/min (1,181 in/min) on X and Z, and no Y travel is listed
  • Turning length of 550 mm (21.7 in) is shorter than the 750 mm (29.5 in) of the TS-4000
06

Best For

Bar work up to 67 mm (2.6 in), depending on chuck and cylinder Parts with a heavy first operation and a lighter second on the 6 in right spindle Mid-size chucking parts on an 8 in (203 mm) chuck up to 370 mm (14.6 in) Tool-heavy jobs on the optional 20-station turret within 292 mm (11.5 in)

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What chucks does the TS-3000YS carry?

An 8 in (203 mm) chuck on the left spindle and a 6 in (152 mm) chuck on the right. The left spindle has an A2-6 nose, runs to 5,000 rpm and is rated 15 / 11 kW (20.1 / 14.8 hp). The right spindle runs to 6,000 rpm and is rated 11 / 7.5 kW (14.8 / 10.1 hp). The TS-3000Y has the 8 in chuck only, with an NC servo tailstock in place of the right spindle.

02 How do the turret options change the working envelope?

With the standard 12-station turret or the optional 10-station turret: 370 mm (14.6 in) of turning diameter and 550 mm (21.7 in) of turning length. With the 15-station turret: 315 mm (12.4 in) and 535 mm (21.1 in). With the 20-station turret: 292 mm (11.5 in) and 545 mm (21.5 in). All are all-holder turrets.

03 What is the bar capacity of the TS-3000?

67 mm (2.6 in), with the table's usual note that it depends on the chuck and cylinder. That sits between the TS-2000 at 51 mm (2.0 in) and the TS-4000 at 82 mm (3.2 in). The left spindle's 5,000 rpm top speed is likewise between the two, at 6,000 rpm for the TS-2000 and 4,200 rpm for the TS-4000.

04 When does the tailstock version make more sense than the right spindle?

The TS-3000Y, with its NC servo tailstock, suits shaft-type parts that need end support along the 550 mm (21.7 in) turning length. The TS-3000YS suits parts that must be finished on the back face, since the right spindle can take over the part. The Y version is 6,000 kg (13,228 lb) and 2,800 × 2,070 mm (110.2 × 81.5 in); the YS is 6,200 kg (13,668 lb) and 2,800 × 2,140 mm (110.2 × 84.3 in).

05 What are the rapid traverse rates?

On the TS-3000YS the table lists X 30 / Z 30 / Y 10 / A 30 m/min (1,181 / 1,181 / 394 / 1,181 in/min). On the TS-3000Y the A axis is listed at 13 m/min. The Y axis is the slow one in both cases, so programs with a lot of Y positioning will not see the 30 m/min figure.
