Overview
The MCG3022i is the largest machine Tajmac-ZPS lists and the base model of what it calls the INFINITY range: an upper-gantry centre with 3,000 mm (118.1 in) of X travel whose modular construction lets X be lengthened in 2 m steps, to the sizes the maker writes as 5022, 7022 and beyond. Y is 2,250 mm. The brochure gives two columns, a 5-axis and a 3-axis machine, and they differ in more than the head.
Take the 3-axis machine first. It has a fixed clamping plate of 4,000 × 2,000 mm carrying 10,000 kg, 1,250 mm of Z travel, and the spindle nose ranges from +530 to +1,780 mm above the table. It draws 70 kVA and weighs 55,000 kg. The 5-axis machine swaps the plate for a ø 2,100 mm rotary table, has 1,050 mm of Z, draws 90 kVA and weighs 53,000 kg. Its table carries 9,000 kg up to 50 rpm and 4,000 kg above, and turns at 2 - 250 rpm in spindle mode with 6,640 / 8,840 Nm.
The drives are sized for the mass. The ram is moved by four AC motors. Along the side walls the cross rail is driven through gear racks, with a pair of pinions engaged in each rack and each pinion on its own motor and planetary gearbox, an arrangement suited to a long X axis that can be extended in modules. Feed and rapid rates are 40, 40 and 50 m/min in X, Y and Z.
Spindles follow the MCG2318i lists. The standard unit is HSK-A100; fixed spindles run to 18,000 rpm in HSK-A63 or to 48 / 71 kW in HSK-T100, and the CyTec M21 changeable head comes as a vertical, horizontal or turning head, or as a 1- or 2-axis head.
Positioning error to ISO 230-2 is 0.009 mm on the linear axes. Through-spindle cooling is standard, at 23 l/min and 60 bar on the 5-axis machine or 40 l/min and 70 bar on the 3-axis machine.

By rack and pinion. Gear racks are located on the upper side of the side walls on the left and right of the cross rail; a pair of pinions engages each rack, and each pinion is driven by a motor with its own planetary gearbox. The sliding ram is moved by four AC regulating motors with digital control.

An HSK-A100 spindle unit. The fixed-spindle list gives HSK-A100 at 14,000 rpm with 25 / 37 kW and 160 / 236 Nm, alongside HSK-A63 at 18,000 rpm and two HSK-T100 turning units. For 5- and 6-axis machines the CyTec M21 changeable head offers units up to 42 / 53 kW and 200 / 250 Nm at 12,000 rpm.
