Overview
The Pinnacle BX500 is a 5-axis machining center with a ± 120° swivel head and a Ø500 mm (Ø19.7 in) rotary table embedded in the main table and driven directly at 50 rpm. X travel is 1,300 mm (51.2 in) and Y 610 mm (24.0 in).
Pinnacle gives Z in two parts, because the reach changes when the head lies over: Vertical Milling 610 / Horizontal Milling 760 mm. That is a useful honesty. A swivel-head machine cuts with the spindle horizontal as well as vertical, and the clearance to the table differs in each attitude.
In the base BX500 the B axis is still worm driven, at 25 rpm with 1,157 Nm (853.4 lb-ft) of clamp torque, while the C axis is direct drive. Rotary positioning accuracy is 14"/10" for B/C, the weaker figure belonging to the worm. The BX500DD replaces the worm with a direct-drive motor.
The built-in spindle delivers 48 / 120 Nm (35.4 / 88.5 lb-ft) from a 15 / 18 kW (20.1 / 24.1 hp) motor at up to 15,000 rpm. The embedded table carries 500 kg (1,102 lb) and the surrounding 1,450 x 610 mm (57.1 x 24.0 in) table 850 kg (1,874 lb). The machine weighs 7,200 kg (15,873 lb). The series is described with the HEIDENHAIN TNC640 and its tilted-plane, collision monitoring and tool centre point functions.
