Price estimate
We do not have a price for the SW BF 15-21D that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The SW BF 15-21D is the larger of SW's two BF machines with independent spindle units. Each of its two working areas has 1,550 mm of X travel, which SW writes as 2 x 1,550 mm, and Y and Z are both 750 mm (29.5 in).
The concept is the one SW describes for the BF series: a new machine platform for the dynamic machining of die-cast and structural components, with two independent three-axis units and one spindle per working area. X and Z run on linear drives. Y uses a ball screw.
What the extra size buys is reach on single large parts. The spindle distance spans 650 – 3,750 mm. With both units on one workpiece, a casting well over three metres long can be covered, each spindle taking its end. With the units apart, the machine behaves as two single-spindle machines sharing a frame, and SW says outright that it can replace two conventional single-spindle machines with a smaller footprint.
Spindle choice is HSK-A63 at up to 17,500 rpm with 32 kW and 72 Nm, or HSK-E50 at up to 40,000 rpm with 18 kW and 11.5 Nm. Large die castings for vehicle bodies are thin-walled aluminium, and neither spindle is short of power for that. The table gives no rotary axis, tool magazine or accuracy figures. SW links a data sheet on the page for the details.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- 2 x 1,550 mm of X travel with 750 mm (29.5 in) of Y and Z
- Spindle distance from 650 – 3,750 mm between two independent three-axis units
- Linear drives in the X and Z axes, per SW's description
- HSK-A63 spindle with 32 kW and 72 Nm, or HSK-E50 at up to 40,000 rpm
- SW says it can replace two conventional single-spindle machines
Limitations
- Y axis driven by a ball screw, not a linear motor
- 72 Nm is the highest torque offered
- SW's table shows no rotary axis or interference circle
- SW's feature list for this model omits the loading-in-parallel line found on the BF 12-21D page

Frequently Asked Questions
01
SW gives X as 2 x 1,550 mm (2 x 61.0 in), one range per working area, with 750 mm (29.5 in) of Y and 750 mm (29.5 in) of Z.
02
The two spindles sit on independent three-axis units, so the distance between them is variable: 650 – 3,750 mm. SW describes using one spindle per working area, or two spindles in one working area during automated component change to bridge the loading time.
03
A hybrid arrangement. According to SW, the X and Z axes are equipped with a linear drive and the Y axis uses a ball screw.
04
HSK-A63 with a 1-17,500 rpm range, 32 kW and 72 Nm per spindle, or HSK-E50 with a 1-40,000 rpm range, 18 kW and 11.5 Nm per spindle. The same pair is listed for the smaller BF 12-21D.
