Price estimate
We do not have a price for the SW BA 711 that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The SW BA 711 is a single-spindle machining center for large, heavy parts: one HSK-A100 spindle with 1,350 mm (53.1 in) of X travel, 650 mm (25.6 in) of Y and 560 mm (22.0 in) of Z. It is the base model of the BA 7 line, which SW nicknames the powerhouse.
The buyer chooses between two spindles, and the choice is a real fork. One has a speed range of 1-12,500 rpm with 42 kW at 25% ED and 400 Nm at 20% ED. The other stops at 6,000 rpm but delivers 52 kW and 615 Nm at the same duty cycles. The first is a universal spindle. The second is for large drills, boring bars and face mills in iron castings, where 615 Nm is used and 6,000 rpm is never missed.
With one spindle and one work table the whole X range belongs to a single part. The 4th axis swings Ø 1,300 x 1,630 mm, enough for an industrial gearbox housing or a truck steering knuckle on a substantial fixture. SW's part list for the series names both, along with truck engine blocks in iron casting and truck brake calipers.
Taller parts are the reason the BA 711 space exists: it raises Y to 1,175 mm (46.3 in). If the part fits 650 mm of Y, the standard model is the more compact answer.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- 1,350 mm (53.1 in) of X travel under a single HSK-A100 spindle
- Spindle choice of 400 Nm at up to 12,500 rpm or 615 Nm at up to 6,000 rpm, both at 20% ED
- Ø 1,300 x 1,630 mm interference circle on the 4th axis
- Monoblock design and powerful spindles on SW's BA 7 feature list
Limitations
- The 615 Nm spindle is limited to 6,000 rpm
- Power and torque are short-term ratings at 25% and 20% ED
- Y travel of 650 mm (25.6 in) is far below the 1,175 mm (46.3 in) of the BA 711 space
- A single spindle machines one part per cycle

Frequently Asked Questions
01
SW lists two. The 12,500 rpm spindle gives 42 kW at 25% ED and 400 Nm at 20% ED and covers mixed work. The 6,000 rpm spindle gives 52 kW and 615 Nm at the same duty cycles and suits heavy cuts in cast iron. Both take HSK-A100 tools.
02
Size of the work space. The BA 711 has 650 mm (25.6 in) of Y, 560 mm (22.0 in) of Z and a Ø 1,300 x 1,630 mm interference circle. The BA 711 space has 1,175 mm (46.3 in) of Y, 650 mm (25.6 in) of Z and Ø 1,700 x 1,830 mm. X and the spindles are the same.
03
The axes cover 1,350 mm (53.1 in) in X, 650 mm (25.6 in) in Y and 560 mm (22.0 in) in Z. Fixture and part together must rotate inside the 4th-axis interference circle of Ø 1,300 x 1,630 mm. SW's table gives no load capacity, so ask for it.
