Overview

The Starrag Heckert H100 is a 1,000 mm pallet 4-axis horizontal machining center and the largest model in Heckert's compact H-series lineup. Designed for heavy-duty production machining of very large prismatic parts, it targets power generation, heavy equipment, oil and gas, mining, and large-scale industrial applications where extreme load capacity and work-envelope size are essential.

Axis travels of 1,400 x 1,200 x 1,400 mm (55.1 x 47.2 x 55.1 in) provide an enormous work envelope for very large castings, weldments, and multi-face structural components. The spindle delivers 10,000 RPM with 60 kW (80 hp) continuous power and 800 Nm of torque through an HSK-A100 taper. A high-torque option reaching over 1,000 Nm handles the most demanding roughing operations in cast iron, large steel billets, and structural alloys.

Two 1,000 x 1,000 mm pallets come standard, each supporting workpieces up to 3,000 kg (6,614 lb). The B-axis rotary table indexes at 0.001-degree resolution for precise multi-face positioning of heavy components. Tool magazine capacity starts at 80 tools, expandable to 300 or more. Rapid traverse reaches 40 m/min across all linear axes. Roller guideways on all axes deliver the rigidity demanded by heavy cutting at this scale.

The H100 runs on Siemens SINUMERIK 840D sl with full IPS pallet pool integration. Positioning accuracy of +/-0.008 mm and repeatability of +/-0.004 mm are impressive for this work-envelope class. Built in Chemnitz, Germany, the H100 competes with the largest compact HMCs from Toyoda, Niigata, and SNK. New machines typically price between $900,000 and $1,400,000.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • 1,000 mm pallets with 3,000 kg load capacity handle the largest castings and structural weldments without fixture compromise or multi-setup workarounds
  • 1,400 x 1,200 x 1,400 mm travel provides an enormous work envelope for single-setup machining of very large multi-face components
  • 60 kW continuous spindle with HSK-A100 taper and 800 Nm torque delivers sustained cutting authority in cast iron, heavy steel, and structural alloys
  • Roller guideways on all axes provide the rigidity needed for heavy interrupted cuts at this massive work-envelope scale
  • Heckert's thermally symmetric design philosophy extends to this large platform, maintaining accuracy despite the machine's significant thermal mass
  • Full IPS pallet pool compatibility enables integration into large-scale flexible manufacturing systems for heavy industry production

Limitations

  • At $900K-$1.4M, the H100 is a major capital investment with limited North American dealer support compared to Japanese competitors
  • 30,000 kg machine weight requires extensive foundation engineering including potential pit work and specialized rigging
  • Siemens-only control platform may create compatibility issues for shops standardized on Fanuc or other control platforms
  • 40 m/min rapid traverse is slower than smaller H-series machines, adding to non-cutting time on smaller workpieces

Frequently Asked Questions

01 How does the Heckert H100 compare to the HEC series?

The H100 is the largest compact H-series machine with 1,000 mm pallets and 3,000 kg load capacity. The HEC series (1250, 1600, 1800) represents Heckert's large-format range with even bigger pallets, higher load capacities, and larger travels. The H100 maintains faster rapid traverse rates and a more compact footprint than HEC machines, making it the right choice when 1,000 mm pallets suffice but maximum floor space efficiency matters.

02 What foundation requirements does the H100 have?

At 30,000 kg, the H100 requires a reinforced concrete foundation engineered for the machine's weight and dynamic cutting forces. Starrag provides detailed foundation drawings with specified concrete thickness, reinforcement requirements, and anchor bolt patterns. A pit may be required for the chip conveyor depending on floor-level configuration. Vibration isolation from adjacent equipment is recommended.

03 What automation options are available for the H100?

Beyond the standard 2-pallet configuration, the H100 supports linear pallet pool systems managed by Starrag's IPS software. Options include 4, 6, or more pallet positions, automatic workpiece loading/unloading stations, and integration with overhead gantry loading systems for very heavy parts. Multi-machine cells connecting H100 units with other Heckert HMCs through a shared pallet pool are common in heavy industry production.

04 What coolant system does the H100 use?

The H100 includes a high-volume flood coolant system with through-spindle coolant delivery as standard. High-pressure coolant options up to 80 bar support deep-hole drilling and demanding material applications. The chip management system uses a heavy-duty hinged belt conveyor sized for the high chip volumes generated during aggressive roughing of large castings. An optional chip wash system improves chip evacuation from deep pockets.
