Price estimate
We do not have a price for the SW BA 742 that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The SW BA 742 puts four HSK-A100 spindles on one machine. That combination is rare: four-spindle machines usually carry small tapers for light parts, and this one carries the heaviest interface in SW's table at a spindle distance of 350 mm (13.8 in).
Each spindle has a 1-10,000 rpm range with 28 kW at 25% ED and 340 Nm at 20% ED. Each works in 350 mm (13.8 in) of X, 650 mm (25.6 in) of Y and 550 mm (21.7 in) of Z. Four iron or steel parts can be rough-machined together, with large drills and milling cutters, in a single cycle.
The arithmetic is the attraction. On a part with a long roughing cycle, four spindles do the work of four single-spindle machines on a fraction of the floor area, and SW puts the energy used per part at 50% less. The two work tables add to it, since the next four parts are clamped while the current four are cut.
The demands are equally plain. Parts must fit a 350 mm pitch. The fixture must clamp four of them identically and stay inside the Ø 775 x 1,600 mm interference circle. Every tool is needed four times, and HSK-A100 tools are large and heavy, so magazine capacity deserves a close look. SW's table does not state it.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- Four HSK-A100 spindles with 340 Nm each at 20% ED
- Four parts per cycle at a 350 mm (13.8 in) spindle distance
- Two work tables for loading in parallel to machining time
- 650 mm (25.6 in) of Y and 550 mm (21.7 in) of Z per spindle
- SW states 50% less energy used per part than single-spindle machining
Limitations
- 350 mm (13.8 in) of X per spindle restricts part width
- Single spindle version with a 1-10,000 rpm range
- Four sets of HSK-A100 tools per operation
- Fixtures for four parts must fit Ø 775 x 1,600 mm

Frequently Asked Questions
01
340 Nm at 20% ED, with 28 kW at 25% ED, over a speed range of 1-10,000 rpm. All four spindles are HSK-A100 and carry the same rating.
02
The spindle distance and the X travel per spindle are both 350 mm (13.8 in), so each part and its clamping must stay within that width. For wider parts SW offers the BA 732 at a 450 mm (17.7 in) pitch.
03
Yes, by SW's naming scheme: 7 for the size, 4 for the number of spindles and 2 for the number of work tables. The BA 7 feature list names loading and unloading in parallel to machining time.
04
The 4th-axis interference circle of Ø 775 x 1,600 mm. Four parts and their clamps have to rotate inside it, and each part must be reachable within 650 mm (25.6 in) of Y and 550 mm (21.7 in) of Z.
