Overview

The Hartford HMC-10 Plus keeps the 1,000 x 1,000 mm (39.4 x 39.4 in) pallet of the HMC-10 and enlarges everything around it. Travels are 1,700 mm (66.9 in) in X, 1,400 mm (55.1 in) in Y and 1,525 mm (60.0 in) in Z, and the pallet load rises to 3,000 kg (6,614 lb).

Why more travel over the same pallet? Because large parts rarely fit inside the pallet outline. A casting bolted to a one-metre pallet may overhang it on every side and stand far higher than it is wide. Against the HMC-10, the tables give 1,700 mm of X where the HMC-10 has 1,300 mm (51.2 in), and 1,400 mm of Y where the HMC-10 has 1,000 mm (39.4 in). In practice that is the difference between reaching the outer faces of an oversize part and not reaching them.

The magazine starts where the others end: 60 tools, with 90 and 120 as options. Spindles and motors are those of the series, a gear head at 6,000 rpm or a built-in spindle at 10,000 rpm, with 15 / 18.5 kW and options of 18.5 / 22 kW and 22 / 26 kW (Cont. / 30 min).

Hartford notes that the built-in spindle has water and dust protection for its bearings, runs on special bearings for axial and radial loads and is temperature-controlled by a cooler system.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • Travels of 1,700 x 1,400 x 1,525 mm, the largest in the HMC line
  • Pallet load of 3,000 kg (6,614 lb)
  • 60-tool magazine with 90 and 120 as options
  • Y travel of 1,400 mm (55.1 in) over a 1,000 mm pallet for tall workpieces
  • Gear spindle at 6,000 rpm or built-in spindle at 10,000 rpm

Limitations

  • The pallet itself is no larger than the HMC-10's 1,000 x 1,000 mm (39.4 x 39.4 in)
  • Motor options are unchanged from the smaller models, at most 22 / 26 kW (Cont. / 30 min)
  • Spindle speed is capped at 10,000 rpm
  • No quill or W axis; for deep boring Hartford's PBM boring mills are the alternative
