SW BA 622 — price

Price estimate: uncertain

We have no price for the SW BA 622 that we can cite and no estimate we can stand behind, so this page shows no number rather than a guess. A quote from SW or an authorised dealer is the reliable figure.

What moves the final price

  • Spindle, control and probing options
  • Tool changer capacity and tooling package
  • Automation — pallet changers, bar feeders, robot cells
  • Freight, rigging, installation and training
  • Region, dealer and time of year

Overview

The SW BA 622 is a twin-spindle machining center with a cubic work space: 600 mm (23.6 in) in X, Y and Z for each spindle, and 600 mm (23.6 in) between the spindles. SW's feature list for the BA 6 adds powerful spindles to the usual series points, and the table backs that with six spindle packages across three interface sizes.

The two HSK-A100 versions are the torque end: 28 kW with 340 Nm, or 30 kW with 375 Nm, both rated at 25% ED with a 1-10,000 rpm range. The HSK-A80 version gives 42 kW at 25% ED and 200 Nm at 10% ED, up to 12,500 rpm. Three HSK-A63 versions cover lighter work: 28 kW with 80 Nm, 45 kW with 125 Nm, and 27 kW with 200 Nm.

That spread tells you what the machine is for. With HSK-A100 and 375 Nm per spindle it is a cast-iron and steel machine for cylinder heads, turbine housings and steering knuckles. With HSK-A63 at 45 kW it is a fast aluminium machine in the same envelope.

Note the duty-cycle ratings. ED figures of 25% and 10% describe short-term load, not continuous output, so ask SW for the continuous ratings before sizing a roughing process. SW's page prints the interference circle for this model with an unclear figure, and it is left out of the table here.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • 600 x 600 x 600 mm of travel per spindle at a 600 mm (23.6 in) spindle distance
  • HSK-A100 spindles with up to 375 Nm per spindle at 25% ED
  • Six spindle packages over HSK-A63, HSK-A80 and HSK-A100
  • HSK-A80 version runs to 12,500 rpm with 42 kW at 25% ED
  • Two work tables by SW's naming scheme, for loading during the cut

Limitations

  • Power and torque of the larger spindles are short-term ratings at 25% or 10% ED
  • The HSK-A100 versions are limited to a 1-10,000 rpm range
  • Only the 28 kW and 45 kW HSK-A63 versions list the optional 17,500 rpm range
  • No clean interference-circle figure, magazine capacity or weight on SW's page

Frequently Asked Questions

01 Which spindle options does the BA 622 have?

Six. HSK-A100: 28 kW with 340 Nm, or 30 kW with 375 Nm. HSK-A80: 42 kW with 200 Nm. HSK-A63: 28 kW with 80 Nm, 45 kW with 125 Nm, or 27 kW with 200 Nm. All values are per spindle; the HSK-A100 and HSK-A80 power figures are given at 25% ED.

02 What does 25% ED mean in the BA 622 table?

ED is the duty cycle. A rating at 25% ED is the load the spindle can deliver for a quarter of a cycle, not continuously. SW's table gives the HSK-A100 torque figures of 340 Nm and 375 Nm at 25% ED and the 200 Nm of the HSK-A80 spindle at 10% ED.

03 What are the travels of the BA 622?

600 mm (23.6 in) in each of X, Y and Z, per spindle. The spindle distance is also 600 mm (23.6 in). Of SW's size 6 machines in this table it has the longest Z; the four-spindle BA 642 has 500 mm (19.7 in).

04 How does the BA 622 compare with the BA 642?

The BA 642 has four spindles 300 mm (11.8 in) apart with 300 mm of X each and no HSK-A100 version. The BA 622 has two spindles 600 mm (23.6 in) apart, 600 mm of X each, and is the model for large parts and for the 340 Nm and 375 Nm spindles.
