Price estimate
We do not have a price for the SW BA 311 that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The SW BA 311 is the single-spindle, single-table member of the BA 3 series. Where most SW machines split the X axis between two or four spindles, this one gives all 550 mm (21.7 in) of X to one HSK-A63 spindle, with 500 mm (19.7 in) of Y and 375 mm (14.8 in) of Z.
The spindle is the series standard: a speed range of 1-10,000 rpm, with 1-17,500 rpm marked optional in SW's table, 32 kW and 72 Nm. That is a general-purpose rating for aluminium and for moderate cuts in cast iron or steel with tools up to the HSK-A63 size class.
A single work table leaves the 4th axis more swing than the two-table variant has. SW gives an interference circle of Ø 575 x 830 mm here, against Ø 475 x 830 mm on the BA 312. So the choice between the two single-spindle models comes down to what matters more, a larger fixture or loading during the cut.
The BA 311 makes sense for parts too wide for the 300 mm spindle distance of the twin-spindle BA 321, and as the first step into the series: SW says its machines share the same design principles and operation across sizes and spindle counts. The BA 3 table lists no magazine capacity, feed rates or control, so ask SW for the data sheet.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- 550 mm (21.7 in) of X travel on a single HSK-A63 spindle, the widest X of the BA 3 series
- Ø 575 x 830 mm interference circle on the 4th axis, larger than the Ø 475 x 830 mm of the BA 312
- 32 kW and 72 Nm at the spindle, with a 17,500 rpm speed range as an option
- Patented monoblock design, as SW's BA 3 feature list puts it
Limitations
- One spindle, so one part per cycle: the multi-spindle output SW promotes for the series does not apply
- The single work table gives up the two-table arrangement of the BA 312
- Z travel is 375 mm (14.8 in), which limits long tools on deep parts
- Standard speed range ends at 10,000 rpm; 17,500 rpm is optional

Frequently Asked Questions
01
Both have one spindle and 550 mm (21.7 in) of X. By SW's naming scheme the last digit is the number of work tables: one on the BA 311, two on the BA 312. The BA 311 has 500 mm (19.7 in) of Y and a Ø 575 x 830 mm interference circle; the BA 312 has 450 mm (17.7 in) of Y and Ø 475 x 830 mm.
02
An HSK-A63 spindle with 32 kW and 72 Nm. The standard speed range is 1-10,000 rpm. SW's table shows 1-17,500 rpm in brackets and marks it as optional, so the faster spindle has to be ordered.
03
550 mm (21.7 in) in X, 500 mm (19.7 in) in Y and 375 mm (14.8 in) in Z. With a single spindle there is no spindle distance to respect, so the whole X range is available to one part or to a row of small parts on one fixture.
04
SW's table gives an interference circle for the 4th axis of Ø 575 x 830 mm, so the workpiece carrier rotates the fixture. Anything clamped on it, including the clamping device itself, has to turn inside that circle. The table does not describe a fifth axis for this model.
