Overview
The SW BA 422 is a twin-spindle machining center in SW's size 4, with 400 mm (15.7 in) between the spindles and a work space of 400 mm (15.7 in) in X, 500 mm (19.7 in) in Y and 425 mm (16.7 in) in Z for each. What sets it apart inside SW's range is the number of spindle packages. The BA 4 page prints five.
Three use the HSK-A63 interface: 35 kW with 80 Nm, 45 kW with 125 Nm, and 27 kW with 200 Nm. Two use HSK-A80: 27 kW with 200 Nm, and 42 kW with 300 Nm. The speed range is 1-10,000 rpm for the first four and 1-8,000 rpm for the 300 Nm version. So the same frame can be ordered as a fast aluminium machine or as a torque machine for cast iron and steel, and the decision has to be made at order time.
SW's feature list for the BA 4 claims the largest integrated tool magazine, at 232 tools. On a twin-spindle machine every tool is needed twice, so that number matters for parts with many features, such as the steering knuckles, turbine housings, brake calipers and bearing caps SW names for the series.
In SW's naming scheme the last digit is the number of work tables. Two tables allow loading in parallel to machining time. SW's table for this model prints the 4th-axis interference circle with an unclear figure, so that row is left out here and should be confirmed with SW.
