Price estimate
We do not have a price for the SW BA 442 that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The SW BA 442 fits four HSK-A63 spindles into the BA 4 frame by halving the spindle distance to 200 mm (7.9 in). Y and Z stay at 500 mm (19.7 in) and 425 mm (16.7 in), and each spindle has 200 mm (7.9 in) of X.
SW lists one spindle rating for this model: 32 kW and 72 Nm per spindle with a speed range of 1-10,000 rpm. The table also prints a 1-17,500 range in brackets with an asterisk, without a legend on the BA 4 page; on SW's BA 3 page the same notation is marked optional. There is no HSK-A80 version. Heavy-torque work stays with the two-spindle BA 422.
Four spindles change the tooling arithmetic. Every operation needs four identical tools, which is where the 232-tool magazine that SW advertises for the BA 4 earns its place. A part with a dozen operations already ties up a good share of it.
The BA 442 is for compact parts in long series: a part has to fit a 200 mm pitch and four of them have to be clamped alike. In return four parts leave the machine per cycle, and the two work tables of SW's naming scheme let the next four be loaded during the cut. SW gives the energy benefit of its multi-spindle machines as 50% less energy used per part.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- Four HSK-A63 spindles with 32 kW and 72 Nm each
- Four parts per cycle at a 200 mm (7.9 in) spindle distance
- SW lists a 232-tool integrated magazine for the BA 4
- 500 mm (19.7 in) of Y and 425 mm (16.7 in) of Z, the same as the BA 422
Limitations
- X travel of 200 mm (7.9 in) per spindle restricts part width
- No HSK-A80 or high-torque spindle on this model; the BA 422 offers up to 300 Nm
- Four sets of tools and four fixtures per table multiply setup effort
- SW's page shows no clean interference-circle figure for the BA 4

Frequently Asked Questions
01
Four HSK-A63 spindles, 200 mm (7.9 in) apart. Each is rated 32 kW and 72 Nm and has its own work space of 200 mm (7.9 in) in X, 500 mm (19.7 in) in Y and 425 mm (16.7 in) in Z.
02
SW's table gives a speed range of 1-10,000 rpm. It also prints a second range, 1-17,500, in brackets with an asterisk. The BA 4 page carries no legend for the asterisk, so confirm with SW whether the faster spindle is an option on this model.
03
For output on small parts. The BA 442 machines four parts per cycle at a 200 mm (7.9 in) pitch. The BA 422 machines two at 400 mm (15.7 in) and offers stronger spindles. If the part fits the narrower pitch and 72 Nm is enough, the four-spindle model doubles the parts per cycle.
04
SW's feature list for the BA 4 names loading and unloading in parallel to machining time, and the last digit of the model name is the number of work tables in SW's naming scheme: two. One table is in the work area while the other is unloaded and reloaded.
