Onsrud 98S — price

Price estimate: uncertain

We have no price for the Onsrud 98S that we can cite and no estimate we can stand behind, so this page shows no number rather than a guess. A quote from Onsrud or an authorised dealer is the reliable figure.

What moves the final price

  • Spindle, control and probing options
  • Tool changer capacity and tooling package
  • Automation — pallet changers, bar feeders, robot cells
  • Freight, rigging, installation and training
  • Region, dealer and time of year

Overview

Sized for a standard eight-foot sheet, the Onsrud 98S has a table of 97 in (2,464 mm) by 49 in (1,245 mm) that travels under a fixed bridge. It is a 3-axis S-Series router with an 18 hp (13.4 kW), 24,000 rpm spindle as standard.

Why choose a moving-table machine for sheet work when a moving gantry takes less floor? Rigidity and access. Onsrud builds the S-Series for dense materials such as solid wood, advanced polymer plastics, composites and nonferrous metals, and the fixed bridge is the stiff part of that design. The table comes out from under it, so sheets and heavy plate can be loaded from three sides, by hand, hoist or a material-handling system.

The price is length. The 98S is 216 in (5,487 mm) long for a 97 in table, because the bed has to pass fully under the bridge. Width is 136 in (3,455 mm) and height 101 in (2,566 mm).

Twelve tools and an 11 in (279 mm) Z-stroke are standard. Upgrades include a 24 hp (17.9 kW) spindle, a second spindle, a second tool changer and longer Z-strokes of 16 in (406 mm) or 28 in (711 mm). The table has 2 vacuum zones.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • Takes an eight-foot sheet on a 97 in (2,464 mm) by 49 in (1,245 mm) table
  • 18 hp (13.4 kW) standard, 24 hp (17.9 kW) optional
  • Table presents the work outside the bridge for loading from three sides
  • 12 tools standard with a second tool changer available

Limitations

  • 216 in (5,487 mm) of machine length for a 97 in (2,464 mm) table
  • Table Y of 49 in (1,245 mm) is the narrowest in the S-Series
  • 2 vacuum zones as standard

Frequently Asked Questions

01 How big is the Onsrud 98S?

The table is 97 in (2,464 mm) by 49 in (1,245 mm). The machine is 216 in (5,487 mm) long, 136 in (3,455 mm) wide and 101 in (2,566 mm) high, the length reflecting the travel of the table under the fixed bridge.

02 What is the difference between the 98S and the 122S?

The 122S has a larger table, 120 in (3,048 mm) by 60 in (1,524 mm), and is 261 in (6,630 mm) long. Both list the same spindle, tool capacity and 2 vacuum zones as standard.

03 Can a second spindle be added to the 98S?

Yes, the S-Series allows up to 2 spindles. Onsrud describes running both at once to double production on identical parts and parking one spindle to reach the entire table on larger parts.

04 What Z-stroke does the 98S have?

11 in (279 mm) as standard. Strokes of 16 in (406 mm) and 28 in (711 mm) are listed as upgrades, which matters for fixtures, vises and thick block more than for sheet.
