Overview

The ShopSabre IS-M 510 pairs a 62 x 122 x 12 in (1,575 x 3,099 x 305 mm) cut area with a Mitsubishi M80 control. It is the 5x10 size of the IS-M Series and the middle of three, between the IS-M 408 and the IS-M 612.

Everything that moves is from one supplier. The control, the 1 kW AC closed-loop brushless servo motors and their individual drive amplifiers are Mitsubishi components, linked by fiber optic communication. For a maintenance department that is a practical point as much as a performance one: one diagnostic environment covers control and drives, and the Well Equipped list mentions on-the-fly adjustment and battery backup. The operator still works through ShopSabre's own interface from a control tower with network and USB file handling.

Mechanically the machine follows the IS pattern. Ball screws drive X, both sides of Y, and Z, with ShopSabre's anti-whip arrangement on the long screws. The frame is a reinforced one-piece weldment of structural steel tube. Rapid speed is 2,100 ipm (53.3 m/min), repeatability +/- 0.001 in (0.025 mm), Z travel 16 in (406 mm) and standard clearance 12 in (305 mm).

Compared with the IS 510, the buyer gives up table for control. The IS 510 cuts 75 x 125 x 12 in, and this machine's 62 in width is a snug fit for a 5x10 sheet. Overall size is 111 x 149 x 95 in (2,819 x 3,785 x 2,413 mm). Tooling in the Well Equipped package is a 10 hp / 12 hp HSD spindle with a rotary changer for 10 ISO30 holders.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • Control, 1 kW servo motors and drive amplifiers are all Mitsubishi, linked by fiber optic communication
  • 62 x 122 in (1,575 x 3,099 mm) cut area for 5x10 sheet
  • Ball screws on X, dual Y and Z at a 2,100 ipm (53.3 m/min) rapid speed
  • 10 hp / 12 hp HSD spindle with a bi-directional rotary 10-position tool changer
  • Phenolic hi-flow vacuum-ready tabletop with 4 independently controlled zones and pop-up pins

Limitations

  • Cutting width of 62 in (1,575 mm) against 75 in on the IS 510
  • Footprint of 111 x 149 x 95 in (2,819 x 3,785 x 2,413 mm) for a 5x10 working area
  • 10 tool positions as packaged; the options list shows no larger changer for the IS-M
  • No weight or electrical figures in ShopSabre's table

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What control is on the ShopSabre IS-M 510?

A Mitsubishi M80 control from the M8 Series, with fiber optic communication and a dedicated CNC CPU. It drives Mitsubishi 1 kW AC closed-loop servo motors. ShopSabre adds its own user interface so the machine is operated like its other routers.

02 How big is the IS-M 510 working area?

62 x 122 x 12 in (1,575 x 3,099 x 305 mm). A 5x10 sheet fits with about an inch of margin on each edge. Z travel is 16 in (406 mm) and the gantry clears 12 in (305 mm) as standard.

03 Should I pick the IS-M 510 or the IS 510?

The IS 510 offers the larger table, 75 x 125 x 12 in, and a 12-position tool changer in its Well Equipped package. The IS-M 510 offers the Mitsubishi control and servo system with a 10-position rotary changer. Both list 2,100 ipm rapids and +/- 0.001 in repeatability.

04 How much floor space does the IS-M 510 take?

The machine measures 111 x 149 x 95 in (2,819 x 3,785 x 2,413 mm). It ships fully assembled, and the operator control tower, vacuum pump and dust collector stand beside it, so the working cell is larger than the footprint alone.
