DMS Denali5 — price

Price estimate: uncertain

We have no price for the DMS Denali5 that we can cite and no estimate we can stand behind, so this page shows no number rather than a guess. A quote from DMS or an authorised dealer is the reliable figure.

What moves the final price

  • Spindle, control and probing options
  • Tool changer capacity and tooling package
  • Automation — pallet changers, bar feeders, robot cells
  • Freight, rigging, installation and training
  • Region, dealer and time of year

Overview

The DMS Denali5 is the compact member of the DMS 5-axis line, a mid-range trim center style router with an overhead moving gantry. Its X range, the bridge axis, is 5 ft to 6 ft, Y is 5 ft to 12 ft, and Z stroke is 30 in (762 mm). DMS pitches it at companies that want 5-axis capability without the footprint of its large-format machines.

Trimming is the job the layout is built around. Formed plastics, composite lay-ups and moulded panels arrive as a shell that has to be cut to its outline and drilled from several sides, and a head that tilts on B to 115° or 130° and turns on C through 363° either way reaches those edges in one setup. DMS also points to the compact design as suited to dust containment and names a quick-change fixture system.

The axes run on a spinning ball nut and recirculating ball screw with a Fagor Sercos drive system and absolute motor encoders, under a Fagor 8065/8070 Power Controller. Rapid feed is up to 1,400 in/min (35.6 m/min) and the spindle turns at up to 24,000 rpm. The rack tool changer holds 10 tools; DMS lists the automatic tool changer among the customizable features, alongside a tool height sensor, automatic lubrication and a retractable roof enclosure.

Site requirements are 380-480 V 3-phase power and 10 CFM of compressed air at 95 PSI. Lubrication is manual on the base machine. The product page and the data sheet disagree on spindle power and on table size for this model, so both belong on the quotation instead of being assumed.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • Compact overhead-gantry 5-axis layout: X 5 ft to 6 ft, Y 5 ft to 12 ft, Z 30 in (762 mm)
  • B axis tilt of 115° or 130° and C rotation of 363° in each direction for trimming from several sides in one setup
  • Spinning ball nut and recirculating ball screw transmission with a Fagor Sercos drive system
  • Rapid feed up to 1,400 in/min (35.6 m/min) and a 24,000 rpm spindle
  • Stress-relieved steel frame with all axes laser calibrated

Limitations

  • X stroke is limited to 6 ft and Z to 30 in (762 mm), the smallest envelope in the 5-axis line
  • The tool changer maximum is 10 tools, against 12 / 24 on the Teton5
  • Lubrication is manual unless the automatic lubrication system is ordered
  • The comparison table lists no feedback scales for this model, where the larger 5-axis machines offer them as an option

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What size parts fit the DMS Denali5?

The stroke table gives X, the bridge axis, as 5 ft minimum and 6 ft maximum, Y as 5 ft minimum and 12 ft maximum, and Z as 30 in (762 mm). Custom workspace travels and custom table configurations are listed among the customizable features, so the working size is settled when the machine is ordered.

02 What are the rotary axis ranges on the Denali5?

The B axis is listed as (+/-) 115° / 130° and the C axis as +/- 363°. The larger DMS 5-axis machines list an optional continuous C axis; the comparison table does not show that option for the Denali5.

03 What control and drives does the Denali5 use?

The data sheet names a Fagor 8065/8070 Power Controller with a Fagor Sercos drive system, a dual-core Windows 10 processor and Ethernet TCP/IP, USB and serial port connections. Motor encoders are all absolute. A touch screen monitor and a bar code reader are customizable features.

04 What power and air does the Denali5 need?

DMS lists 380-480 V, 3-phase power and a compressed air requirement of 10 CFM at 95 PSI. Lubrication is manual on the standard machine, with an automatic lubrication system available as a customizable feature.

05 Does the Denali5 have an automatic tool changer?

The comparison table lists the tool changer as rack or manual with a maximum of 10 tools, and the data sheet puts the automatic tool changer under customizable features. In other words, check whether the rack is included in the configuration you are quoted.
