Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Sharp LMV-MP-2 that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
Smallest and lightest of Sharp's CNC knee mills, the LMV-MP-2 puts a two-axis MILLPWR G2 control on a 9 x 42 in (230 x 1066 mm) table. It weighs 2,400 lb (1,090 kg), about two thirds of the 3500 lb (1587 kg) listed for the TMV-MP-2, and it goes where the bigger frame will not: a school shop, a maintenance crib, an upstairs lab.
The envelope is correspondingly modest. X travel is 25 in (635 mm) and Y travel 11 in (279 mm), with 5 in (127 mm) on the quill. Y is the tight one. A part wider than 11 in has to be re-clamped or reached by sliding the ram, which has 12 in (304.8 mm) of travel and puts the spindle center 6.75 - 18.5 in (171 - 470 mm) from the column.
The head has more freedom than on the TMV machines. It swivels 360° on the turret and tilts 45° left and right and 45° up and down, so angled holes and chamfers can be cut by setting the head instead of the part. The knee gives 16 in (406 mm) of vertical travel.
Spindle equipment is the familiar R-8 with a 3 hp (2.25 kW) motor and 60 - 4500 rpm. The CNC covers the longitudinal and cross axes on precision ball screws; depth is set at the quill, 3.375 in (85.7 mm) in diameter, against its digital readout.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- Lightest Sharp CNC knee mill at 2,400 lb (1,090 kg)
- Head swivels 360° and tilts 45° in two planes
- 16 in (406 mm) of knee travel
- Two-axis MILLPWR G2 CNC with precision ball screws
- Runs on 3 kVA, at 8 amp or 4 amp depending on supply
Limitations
- Y travel is only 11 in (279 mm)
- X travel of 25 in (635 mm) is the shortest in the range
- Quill depth is set by hand
- Sharp's nose-to-table and T-slot rows are inconsistent for this model

Frequently Asked Questions
01
The table is 9 x 42 in (230 x 1066 mm) and the machine is listed at 7 x 6.6 x 6.7 ft (2.1 x 2 x 2 m), width by depth by height, with a weight of 2,400 lb (1,090 kg). Travels are 25 in (635 mm) in X and 11 in (279 mm) in Y.
02
The TMV-MP-2 has a 10 x 54 in (254 x 1,371 mm) table, 31 in (787 mm) by 15.5 in (393 mm) of travel and weighs 3500 lb (1587 kg). The LMV-MP-2 has a 9 x 42 in (230 x 1066 mm) table, 25 in (635 mm) by 11 in (279 mm) of travel and weighs 2,400 lb (1,090 kg). Control, spindle taper and motor are the same.
03
Yes. Sharp's table lists a head swivel angle of 360° and head tilt of 45° left and right and 45° up and down. The ram also slides 12 in (304.8 mm) to move the spindle in and out over the table.
04
The longitudinal and cross axes only. Sharp lists a Millpwr G2 2-axis CNC system with 2-axis ball screws and servo drives, plus a 3-axis digital readout on the table, saddle and quill. Programming is by G code or conversational entry.
