How much does the Sharp KMA-3-CNC cost?
Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Sharp KMA-3-CNC that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The Sharp KMA-3-CNC is the largest vertical-spindle model of the KMA bed mills and the only one with more power than its siblings: a 15 hp (11.18 kW) spindle motor, where the KMA-2-CNC has 10 hp (7.45 kW). The axis motors go up as well, to 4 hp (3 kW).
It also gets its own table. At 86.6 x 23.6 in (2200 x 600 mm) the table is longer and wider than the one shared by the two smaller sizes, with five T-slots listed as 5 x 0.78 x 4.9 in (5 x 20 x 124 mm). X travel is 66.9 in (1700 mm) and Y travel 31.5 in (800 mm). Z travel stays at 23.6 in (600 mm), and so does the 27.5 in (700 mm) cutting height.
One figure does not scale. Maximum table loading is 4,400 lb (2,000 kg), the same as on the KMA-2-CNC, even though the table is larger. A buyer with heavy weldments should size the job against that rating, not against the table area.
As on the rest of the series, the spindle is a No. 50 taper gearhead with 18 speeds from 45 rpm to 1,500 rpm and no automatic tool change. Sharp describes the gears as hardened and ground, with a circulating filtration system for the gearbox oil. The machine weighs 16,500 lb (7484 kg) and draws 25 kVA.

Frequently Asked Questions
01
The table lists a 15 hp (11.18 kW) spindle motor driving a No. 50 taper through 18 geared speeds, 45 rpm to 1,500 rpm. The KMA-1-CNC and KMA-2-CNC are listed with 10 hp (7.45 kW).
02
The working area is 86.6 x 23.6 in (2200 x 600 mm), 33.66 in (855 mm) above the floor, with a maximum loading of 4,400 lb (2,000 kg). Sharp gives the X/Y cutting range as 66.9/30.7 in (1700 x 780 mm).
03
Linear scales on three axes, a table chip guard, a 4,600 rpm variable speed head in lieu of the 1,500 rpm one, and an indexer. A power drawbar, auto lubrication, a coolant system, pneumatic locks on table and saddle and an electro magnetic spindle brake are standard.
04
Floor space is 204 x 160.6 in (5182 x 4074 mm) and machine height 125.2 in (3180 mm). Net weight is 16,500 lb (7484 kg), compared with 15,400 lb (6985 kg) for the KMA-2-CNC.
